A false alarm at a high school football game that featured West Bloomfield and Cass Tech last Friday had everyone who attended in a frenzy.

WEST BLOOMFIELD TWP., MI -- West Bloomfield High School hosted Detroit Cass Technical High School for the first round of the MHSAA Division 1 football playoffs on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022. On a beautiful summer day in Clark Park, the ice rink minus the ice was getting a lot of action. There are sticks involved, but this isn’t hockey.

There are thousands of eighth grade students in the Detroit school district, and officials want just as many to attend high school in Detroit.

The Detroit Sports Commission will host “Wrestling Fan Jam” this Saturday (March 19) from 2-5 p.m. at Detroit’s Cass Technical High School.

Henry Ford Health Systems’ Vice Chair of Surgery and System Director of Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Ikenna Okereke, immigrated to Detroit from Nigeria in middle school. He moved away but always remembered Detroit as the place that gave his family a chance. Now that Okereke has returned, he wants to provide Detroit area youth with an opportunity too.

This Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, several local organizations are joining efforts to host the 2021 Reach for Hope benefit to raise money for suicide prevention training in Detroit.

Family and friends gathered Wednesday, May 12, to honor Cass Tech High School coach Dennis Smith II, who was killed in a shooting in Detroit.

Family and friends are still trying to process the untimely death of Cass Technical High School coach Dennis Smith who was widely known as “Coach Smitty.”

What is your favorite school subject? A sophomore at Cass Technical High School, Vesprini is an accomplished violinist and vocalist. “One of my favorite violin experiences was performing at Carnegie Hall with my Music School Touring group,” she said. Incorporating her love for music, she virtually assists other young violinists by practicing with them to ensure they stay entertained and motivated. “I will soon be expanding my program to be able to children all over Michigan.”Outside of working with her program, Vesprini participates in the Co-Ette Club.

DETROIT – A mega-designer brand is getting some much-needed schooling from Detroit high school students. After a slip-up caused a storm of bad publicity, Gucci partnered with Cass Technical High School for a long-lasting relationship that will change cultural perceptions. In the spring of 2019, the luxury brand Gucci released a sweater that received backlash over its use of blackface. During this time, Gucci looked at Cass Tech in Detroit. AdIt turned into an opportunity for both Gucci and Cass Tech as meetings with students and collaborations have continued through the pandemic.

DETROIT – It’s one of the most recognizable slogans in Metro Detroit: “Detroit vs. Everybody.”It was started by a Detroit graduate whose career took him across the country. He traveled across the country and realized he didn’t like the way Detroit was being represented. Back in 2012, Walker created a simple, unmistakable design -- Detroit vs. Everybody. DETROIT – Wayne County Judge Craig Strong is a Detroit icon who has done so much while on the bench, and continues to be a trailblazer even through his retirement. Strong was born and raised on the west side of Detroit, but it wasn’t easy for him to get to where he is today. During his time on the bench, Judge Strong received numerous accolades, such as becoming the president of the Association of Black Judges in Michigan -- an organization he helped create as one of the founding members. But, where you’re good, you’re good! One Detroiter recently showed exactly how good he is when he performed Smokey Robinson’s classic song “Cruisin” during the blind auditions on “The Voice”. Rio Souma joined Tati Amare to discuss his show-stopping performance that literally turned the heads of three of the show’s coaches. Souma also shared some of his musical background, including his time at Cass Technical High School and being a member of the Detroit Mosaic Youth Theater. DETROIT – A Detroit public schools police officer has been rushed to the hospital after being hit by a car that was doing donuts. It happened Tuesday night in the parking lot of Cass Technical High School. Officials aid a green Dodge Charger was doing donuts in the parking lot. Officers initiated a traffic stop and when an officer stepped out of the vehicle to approach the Charger, the suspect vehicle allegedly pinned the officer against the police cruiser. The driver is in police custody and the passenger of that vehicle is being questioned by police.

DETROIT Detroit Teen and Cass Technical High School student Arika Harvey talks about battling the coronavirus. In addition to fighting the disease Harvey had family members who died from it. DETROIT – Brandon Campbell, 17, is a senior at Cass Technical High School where he has a 4.67 GPA. Brandon is president of the school’s National Honors Society and is enrolled in all Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses. He was nominated by mother for his leadership and passion for giving back to the community.

DETROIT - District 13 Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders at a rally Sunday at Cass Technical High School. The rally started with a performance by Detroit native and Cass Tech alumnus Jack White. Valeria Rios-Hernandez, a recent Cass Technical High School graduate, has a message for students in Detroit: This is not normal. Rios recalls the confusion and concern that set in as a strong smell related to the rupture spread through the school.
