ANN ARBOR, MI – The Humane Society of Huron Valley in Ann Arbor took in more animals than any other shelter in the state in 2020 and is on track to do it again this year. “Throughout the pandemic, we remained steadfast in our commitment to serving the community, animals and people in need,” HSHV President/CEO Tanya Hilgendorf said. We take in not just owner-surrendered animals but also lost and stray animals and those who have been abandoned, orphaned and victims of cruelty.”In 2020, the shelter took in 2,072 dogs, 3,400 cats, 53 rabbits, 319 rodents and eight ferrets, records show. The shelter noted the 2020 numbers do not include animals treated in its nonprofit veterinary clinic or the thousands of wild animals or farm animals helped by the shelter. Superior Township residents asked to shelter inside amid ongoing barricaded gunman situation near Meadow Drive, Gale Road

SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Washtenaw County police are asking Superior Township residents to avoid an active police situation in the area of Meadow Drive and Gale Road, between Cherry Hill and Vreeland roads, on Thursday morning. According to the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, a gunman has barricaded himself inside a home in the 5600 block of Meadow Drive as of 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Officials say the situation began as a domestic altercation between the gunman and his parents. Family members were safely evacuated from the home Wednesday morning, but the gunman refused to come out and remained inside the home. The gunman is still barricaded inside the home.

Grandparents fatally stabbed in Garden City double murder-suicide

GARDEN CITY, Mich. – A Metro Detroit family is in shock after losing a grandfather and grandmother in a fatal stabbing Wednesday, just before Christmas. According to authorities, three people have died in an apparent murder-suicide case after a man threatened to kill himself during a 911 call. GARDEN CITY, Mich. – Police are investigating what they believe is a murder-suicide in Garden City that left a 77-year-old grandmother dead. Police said they found the body of Maria Ortega, a grandmother of 10 and also a great-grandmother, inside the home. “She was the most generous person we know of and she was always there when we needed her,” said Sandy Quintana. “It’s just so hard right now because it was so unexpected.”Garden City police released few details about the investigation. “My grandmother was the most supportive and generous person that I know of.

1 person shot, killed outside restaurant in Inkster

INKSTER, Mich. – One person was shot and killed Friday night outside a restaurant on Middlebelt Road in Inkster. Shots were fired at Moe’s Fish & Chicken between Michigan Avenue and Cherry Hill Road. Witnesses reported gunfire while several customers lined up outside the restaurant. Police have not released any information about a suspect. You can watch the report in the video above.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the officer was traveling west on Cherry Hill Road with lights and siren going when a car in the center lane pulled out in front of the officer's vehicle and the two vehicles collided, according to police.
