An American journalist who spent nearly six months imprisoned in Myanmar was finally freed and reunited with his family in New York on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press. There’s nothing to be anxious about anymore,” Fenster told reporters after landing in New York. Fenster told reporters Monday that he was physically OK and had not been starved or beaten while in custody, according to AP. While detained, he had told his lawyer that he believed he had COVID-19, although prison authorities denied that. The Detroit native began working for Frontier Myanmar in 2020 and obtained his master’s degree in creative writing from Wayne State University.
