Brady-led Bucs can clinch playoff spot with win over Lions
DETROIT – Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are rolling into the Motor City with a chance to clinch a spot in the playoffs. The six-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback and the Bucs (9-5) are a victory away from earning a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2007. “I call them `Hat and T-Shirt' games," Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians said. He had five catches for a season-best 93 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown that capped last week’s comeback win over Atlanta. GRONK FANTampa Bay tight end Rob Gronkowski will have at least one request after the game.

DETROIT – Detroit Lions interim coach Darrell Bevell and four assistants will be forced to sit out Saturday’s game against Tampa Bay after two individuals in the organization tested positive for COVID-19. After the Lions let go head of coach Matt Patricia, Bevell stepped in as interim coach for the team. Now the Lions will have an interim coach to replace their interim coach who has to sit out Saturday’s game against the Buccaneers due to the NFL’s COVID protocols. On game day, Bevell won’t be able to communicate with the interim coaches. NFL rules state that the coaches can’t have any contact, so the assistant coaches stepping in will be all on their own.

Browns first-year coach Kevin Stefanski said “there’s a possibility” when asked if Wills will play this week against the Jets. For the Lions, they will lean on two men to call plays for the first time in an NFL game. I’m calling plays in an NFL game.

DETROIT – Several Detroit Lions coaches must stay away from the team facility until further notice as part of a COVID-19 contact tracing process, the team announced Wednesday. When Matt Patricia was let go as the Lions’ head coach, Darrell Bevell became the team’s interim coach. Now, with two positive COVID cases inside the organization, the Lions might need an interim-interim coach for Saturday’s game against the Buccaneers. Through contact tracing, several coaches are considered close contacts per NFL policy, including interim head coach Bevell. A coach for Saturday’s game has yet to be determined as the Lions and the league continue to communicate.

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions shut down their team facility Tuesday after two people within the organization tested positive for COVID-19. The positive test results came in Tuesday morning, the team announced. The Lions decided to close the practice facility as a precaution, so team meetings are being held remotely on Tuesday. Detroit traveled to Tennessee over the weekend and lost to the Titans to fall to 5-9 on the season.

Tannehill has 5 TDs, Titans rout Lions 46-25
The Titans (10-4) did their part with a second straight victory and fourth in five games to stay atop the AFC South. Henry capped the opening drive with a 3-yard TD run, his 15th this season. The Titans led 21-7 after a 75-yard TD pass from Tannehill to Corey Davis and a 17-yard TD run by Tannehill. Romeo Okwara sacked Tannehill two plays later for the Lions' first safety in 75 games, also against Tennessee on Sept. 18, 2016. The Titans put it away with 22 points in the fourth quarter with Tannehill's second TD run and two more TD passes.
Lions will hold out hope all week that Stafford can play
The Detroit Lions will hold out hope as long as they can that Matthew Stafford can play at Tennessee with banged-up ribs. Stafford stayed in the game to hand off to Kerryon Johnson for a touchdown on the next play, but was evaluated by the team's medical staff on the sideline. Stafford went toward the locker room, returned to throw passes near the benches before going back out of sight. “That guy loves to play football and it’s going to take a lot to keep him out," Bevell said. Packers beat Lions in Detroit, clinch division title
DETROIT – Aaron Rodgers ran for a tiebreaking score in the third quarter and threw three touchdown passes and the Green Bay Packers beat the Detroit Lions 31-24 Sunday and clinched the NFC North title. The Packers clinched the division with the win and Minnesota’s loss to Tampa Bay earlier in the day. The Packers’ win combined with the Saints’ loss in Philadelphia gives Green Bay the top seed in the NFC. The Lions (5-8) scored first and pulled into a tie late in the second quarter, but they simply couldn’t stop Rodgers. He also threw a 14-yard TD pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s back shoulder to put the Packers ahead 14-7 in the opening minute of the second quarter.

But the Lions turned things around down the stretch, sending the Bears (5-7) to their sixth straight loss. The Lions came out on top after losing four of five, and Stafford gave Bevell the game ball.

The Lions also downgraded running back D’Andre Swift to doubtful for their game Sunday at Chicago due to an illness. The Lions fired coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn last week. The Lions activated cornerback Darryl Roberts from the injured list to bolster their banged-up secondary against Chicago. They also signed defensive tackle Frank Herron off the practice squad and elevated safety Bobby Price from the practice squad.
State legislators push for Robert Saleh to be named Detroit Lions head coach

Nearly 40 state lawmakers signed their name on a letter thanking owner Sheila Ford Hamp for the change, also urging her to hire San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator and Dearborn-native Robert Saleh.
