Willow Run Airport awarded more than $15 million in federal funding for upgrades
Senators Debbie Stabenow (MI), Gary Peters (MI) announced on Tuesday that Willow Run Airport will receive $15,275,685 from the Department of Transportation. The airport will use the Federal Aviation Administration grant to improve its existing runways. “I’m pleased to announce this federal grant, which will help improve Willow Run’s daily operations.”“Investing in Willow Run Airport will support economic development in the region,” Senator Stabenow said in a release. “Willow Run Airport is a critical gateway for our local economy in Ypsilanti and Washtenaw, as well as throughout the entire tri-county area,” Congresswoman Dingell said in a release. “With more than $15 million in federal funds, Willow Run can make critical improvements to their runway that will keep pilots and passengers safe, while increasing cargo capability arriving at and departing from the airport.
It’s snow laughing matter -- MDOT asks residents to help name snowplows
DETROIT – The Michigan Department of Transportation announced Sunday it will start naming its snowplows to add a personal touch to the Mi Drive map. To see each snowplow’s name, visit the Mi Drive map here and activate the MDOT snowplow tracker map layer. Current snowplow names were chosen from hundreds of suggestions and include Plowasaurus Rex, Winter Snowdier, Sir Salts-A-Lot, Snowboni and -- of course -- Plowy McPlowface. MDOT is hopeful to name each of the more than 250 MDOT plows statewide in the near future. Don’t get cold feet and submit your plow names here.
DDOT bus service stops due to driver labor dispute
DETROIT – The city of Detroit announced Friday morning that there is no bus service due to a driver labor dispute. Here is the statement from the city’s Department of Transportation (DDOT):“The Detroit Department of Transportation is currently undergoing a driver work stoppage due to a labor dispute. At the time being there is no bus service. My men and women are putting it on the line every day,” President of DDOT Union Local 26 Glenn Tolbert said in July. Detroit transit services receive $64.3 million grant to support coronavirus response efforts
DETROIT The Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) will receive a $64.3 million grant to support transit operations and employees amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We know many of our nations public transportation systems are facing extraordinary challenges and these funds will go a long way to assisting our transit industry partners in battling COVID-19, said Federal Transit Administration Acting Administrator K. Jane Williams. The grants support coronavirus response efforts under the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act. Dow sinks 200 points as Boeing's stock tanks

The Dow dropped nearly 200 points, or 0.7%, while the broader S&P 500 was down 0.6%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite is 1.2% lower. Lawsuit alleges Detroit mayor ordered DDOT to stop putting River Rouge school ads on buses
DETROIT - A lawsuit alleges Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan ordered Department of Transportation buses to not use Rover Rouge school ads on its buses. According to the lawsuit, the River Rouge district has advertised on buses since about 2012. A statement from the district claims the mayor targeted River Rouge Schools, and charter schools are still allowed to advertise on DDOT buses. "River Rouge Schools, Dr. Coleman, and Mrs. Harper believe that this targeted attack is wrong and should not be allowed. The Mahyor never gave any such directive regarding River Rouge Schools or any other advertiser.
