5 buildings damaged in Jackson fire, officials say
JACKSON, MI -- Flames and smoke damaged at least five buildings in Jackson Wednesday night, officials said. At about 6 p.m. Dec. 15, the Jackson Fire Department was dispatched to the 400 block of Randolph Street for a three-alarm fire, Jackson Assistant Fire Chief Tim Gonzales said. While the fire remains under investigation, officials believe it may have started from a stove fire on the first floor, Gonzales said. The fire reached the home’s gas meter, causing the further spread of the flames, Gonzales said. KALAMAZOO, MI -- Flames engulfed a Kalamazoo house late Thursday in the area of Charles and Phelps avenues. The fire was reported about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 11 and is not far from East Main Street and East Michigan Avenue. Firefighters reported that flames caused overhead power lines to fall across Phelps Avenue. They called for Consumers Energy to cut power to the lines. It wasn’t immediately clear if anybody was injured.

According to another witness, others jumped from a window to escape the fire at the apartment building on North River Road. Rochester Hills home catches fire for the second time in less than a month

When firefighters arrived the home was fully engulfed in flames with heavy fire showing through the roof. Most of the bungalow style roof collapsed during the fire. According to the Rochester Hills Fire Department, the same home caught fire less than a month ago on Christmas Eve.

DETROIT – Detroit firefighters pulled a 20-year-old woman and a young boy from a burning home Tuesday afternoon in the 7400 block of Clayburn Street. The woman and child, who is believed to be either 4 or 5 years old, suffered burns and smoke inhalation. The woman was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital with burns over 50 percent of her body and suffering from smoke inhalation. The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital with burns, also suffering from smoke inhalation. According to the Detroit Fire Department, firefighters pulled them from the house right when they arrived about noon Tuesday.

Despite being on the shore of Lake Erie, crews were unable to get enough water to battle the fire properly.

Firefighters work to keep flames away from Hamtramck business
HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – No one was in immediate danger as firefighters respond to an unoccupied building engulfed in flames in Hamtramck Monday night. The concern, however, is protecting equipment for a neighboring business. The building is located on Conant Street north of Davison Street. 4th person killed in devastating California wildfire

The firefighters covered themselves on the ground with the emergency shelters that look like space blankets if they are in imminent danger from flames. On Sept. 8, 14 firefighters deployed emergency shelters as flames overtook them and destroyed the fire station they were defending in the Los Padres National Forest. He was the fourth person killed by the blaze that has spread to neighboring Tehama County. The Glass and Zogg fires are among nearly 30 wildfires burning in California.

Paradise football brings a community together 1 year after devastating Camp Fire
Flames tore the community apart, but football has helped to bring it back together. The undefeated Bobcats of Paradise High School may have been playing in top-seeded Eagles' territory recently, but you wouldn't have known it from the crowd. "If you look at the stands, the whole town of Paradise is here," said running back Lukas Hartley. It's been one year since 95% of Paradise was erased by the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California's history. Under Friday night lights, the Bobcats won, so next up are the division championships.

Rains aid in battling ponderosa pine fire near Flagstaff, Arizona
PHOENIX, Ariz. (Reuters) - Flames raged mostly unchecked for a third day through Americas largest ponderosa pine forest, threatening thousands of residents in and around Flagstaff, Arizona, but firefighters made the most of afternoon rains on Tuesday to finally take the offensive. The Museum Fire, named for the Museum of Northern Arizona not far from the blazes point of origin, has scorched at least 1,400 acres (567 hectares) of the Coconino National Forest since erupting on Sunday, fire officials said. Rugged terrain has made battling the flames difficult, said Joel Barnett, a spokesman for a multi-agency fire command led by the U.S. Forest Service. More than 500 firefighters were assigned to the blaze, one of three large fires reported this week in the sprawling Coconino National Forest, encompassing some of the largest contiguous swaths of ponderosa pine in North America. The National Interagency Fire Center tallied a total of 11 major wildfires across Arizona.
