OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – A two-vehicle rollover crash involving an ambulance injured four people in northern Kent County Monday, April 5. A Ford Explorer heading east on 14 Mile Road NE crashed into a westbound Montcalm County ambulance near Lincoln Lake Road shortly after 10 p.m., witnesses told Michigan State Police. The ambulance, transporting a patient at the time of the crash, fell onto its side. She was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, according to a Michigan State Police news release. A 39-year-old woman was pinned inside an SUV and needed to be extricated after colliding with an ambulance in northern Kent County, Monday, April 5.

Starting Monday, Ford will cut two shifts at its Dearborn, Michigan, facility, going down to one shift per day. AdFord isn't alone in cutting back production due to the shortage of chips needed to produce cars. General Motors will have downtime at three of its factories — one in the U.S, one in Canada and one in Mexico — due to the chip shortage, starting Feb. 8. Other automakers like Nissan, Fiat Chrysler and Toyota have also been impacted by the chip shortage.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has 11 complaints that a recall of power tailgates on 300,000 Super Duty pickups failed to rectify the issue. The agency says it also has received reports from Ford about unintended tailgate openings after the recall repairs were made. Ford recalled the F-250, F-350 and F-450 trucks in 2019 because the power tailgates could open while being driven.
17-year-old injured in shooting on Lenore Avenue, Detroit police say
DETROIT – A 17-year-old was injured in a shooting Tuesday evening in the 18900 block of Lenore Avenue, according to the Detroit Police Department. Police said that at about 6 p.m., the victim was sitting in his Ford Explorer in the driveway when an unknown vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots. Over 375K Ford Explorer models recalled for suspension issues
DETROIT -- Ford announced a recall this week that impacts more than 375,000 Ford Explorer models that were sold in the U.S. and Canada. A problem with the suspension in the affected vehicles has caused 13 reported crashes in which six people were hurt, according to the Associated Press. Ford says the problem occurs in places where corrosion is common and the rear toe links can fracture. They were sold or registered in 22 states and six Canadian provinces where salt is used to clear roads, according to the AP. The vehicles were also sold in the following Canadian provinces: New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

One dead, two hospitalized after crash near Benton Harbor
BENTON HARBOR, MI — A 63-year-old Benton Harbor man is dead after the vehicle he was driving was struck by another vehicle in a Benton Charter Township intersection shortly after midnight Wednesday morning. Both the Benton Harbor man and the driver of the Audi were transported via ambulance to Spectrum Health Lakeland, where the man was pronounced dead, the release states. The driver of the Audi, a 51-year-old Benton Harbor woman, was treated for injuries sustained in the crash. A passenger in her car, a 24-year-old Benton Harbor woman, was also treated for injuries at the hospital after being transported there by a private vehicle. OTSEGO COUNTY, MI -- A 22-year-old Vanderbilt woman was found dead inside of a crashed vehicle early Thursday morning and a 28-year-old man was been arrested in connection. Michigan State Police say Brittany Poirier, was found dead inside a 2006 Ford Explorer that had left a roadway and crashed in a field. Police were called shortly after midnight for a reported crash on Whitmarsh Road near Peanut Hill in Corwith Township. After investigating the scene, police went to the home of a 28-year-old Gaylord man. When police arrived at his home, the man had visible injuries and blood covered his clothes and body.

12-year-old girl hits, kills man and dog
CNN(CNN) - A 12-year-old girl hit a man and his dog with an SUV in Houston, killing them instantly, police said. Tomas Mejia Tol's daughter was driving the Ford Explorer around an apartment complex Thursday evening, police said in a statement. "The child (driver) began to pull forward from a parking space as a man was walking with his dogs through the parking lot," police said. The man and one dog were pronounced dead at the scene and the girl's father was detained. Prosecutors said he told investigators he was the one driving, but they later found out it was the girl.

Six injured in two-car crash Saturday in Bedford Twp.
The accident happened at the intersection of LaVoy and S. Telegraph Rds. A 37-year-old Toledo man suffered multiple broken bones when the 2002 Ford Explorer he was driving collided with a 2019 Dodge Caravan containing six persons Saturday night in Bedford Township. The accident happened about 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of LaVoy and S. Telegraph Rds. According to the Monroe County Sheriffs Office, the man was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo for treatment of serious injuries. Five of the six persons in the Caravan suffered minor injuries and taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital for treatment.
