First responders awarded for heroic rescue of 3-year-old in Grosse Ile
A group of police officers and firefighters are now being called heroes for saving the life of a three-year-old girl who nearly drowned in a friendโs pool. This week those nine first responders were awarded during a township board meeting.

Both boaters missing in Detroit River found
DETROIT โ The bodies of two men who went missing after a boat capsized in the Detroit River near Grosse Ile about 7:30 p.m. Sunday have been found. Robert Chiles, 52, of Grosse Ile, has been identified as one of the missing men. I offer my condolences, as well, to the Chiles family,โ Archbishop of Detroit Allen H. Vigneron said. Anne and Most Holy Trinity Parish, both in Detroit, was on the boat when it capsized and was rescued from the water by Good Samaritans nearby.
Pilot killed in plane crash on Grosse Ile
GROSSE ILE TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A man was killed Saturday in a plane crash on the south side of Grosse Ile. UPDATE: Man killed in place crash identified as 57-year-old from Lincoln ParkHe was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries, where he died. He was flying an experimental ultralight plane and witnesses said the plane clipped a tree and crashed in the woods behind a neighborhood. He was the only person on board. The FAA and NTSB is investigating.
Drunken 71-year-old man clocked driving 104 mph in a 30 mph zone in Wyandotte
WYANDOTTE, Mich. โ Wyandotte police clocked a man driving 104 mph in a 30 mph zone April 13. An officer stopped the man on on Biddle Avenue, near Plum Street, around 8 p.m.Police said the officer smelled alcohol coming from the 71-year-old Grosse Ile manโs vehicle. The man told the officer he had two drinks. The man failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. The man blew .12 and .13 on a breathalyzer test during booking, police said.
Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge to close this summer for repairs
GROSSE ILE TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ The Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge, officially called the Wayne County Bridge, over the Trenton Channel is scheduled to close on or after May 1 for repairs. Once it is closed, the bridge may not reopen until October 2020, according to Grosse Ile Township officials. At the time, the county said the Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge will have to undergo extensive rehabilitation work during the 2020 construction season. The design for Phase II has been completed and rehabilitation work is being bid out. The Grosse Ile Toll Bridge remains open at the north end of the island.
Grosse Ile Township ranked safest community in Michigan
DETROIT - Grosse Ile residents can continue to breathe easily in the haven of their township that topped more than 100 Michigan cities as the safest city in the state. Second place is shared by Beverly Hills and Grosse Pointe Park, both earning 0.78 on the safety index. Livonia ranked 19th on the list, with a safety index score of 0.39. Grosse Ile Township is no stranger to the top of safety lists, last year it ranked sixth on a similar list compiled by Safewise.
