Harper Woods police put out a stranger danger alert Monday for parents after a white SUV was spotted approaching children asking them if they wanted candy in both Harper Woods and Saint Clair Shores. Less than a mile and a half apart with easy access onto I-94, police say it’s suspicious.

Family of Harper Woods mother allegedly murdered by boyfriend didn’t know she was in danger
HARPER WOODS, Mich. – The family of a Harper Woods mother of six who was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend didn’t know their loved one was in danger, they said. Steven Bratton, 42, is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Katie Elliott, 37, of Harper Woods, according to authorities. “Domestic violence awareness.”The T-shirts are a message for anyone in a domestic violence situation. Jason Elliott said he didn’t know his sister was in potential danger with Bratton, who was a relatively new boyfriend. Officials said her body was found in the backyard of the home she rented on Woodside Street in Harper Woods.

Key witness says he saw Priscilla Slater during shooting before she died in Harper Woods cell
HARPER WOODS, Mich. A key witness in the case of Priscilla Slaters death described her involvement in a shooting incident before the 38-year-old was found dead in a Harper Woods holding cell. The man told the Local 4 Defenders he saw why Harper Woods police had contact with Slater at the Parkcrest Motel last week. He started shooting -- Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,' the witness said. The witness told Local 4 both were arrested without incident. But 11 and a half hours later, Slater was found unresponsive in a holding cell at the Harper Woods Department of Public Safety.

Smith said Slater’s in-custody death upset him so much he called her family personally to notify them.

Detroit man faces up to 10 years in prison for Harper Woods burglary, police say
HARPER WOODS, Mich. – A Detroit man is facing up to a decade in prison in connection with a string of business burglaries in Harper Woods, police said. Numerous businesses on Kelly Road were targeted and burglarized in the fall of 2019, according to authorities. Detectives gathered evidence from the scenes and identified Antonio Gamble as a suspect, officials said. He was charged at 32-A District Court with breaking and entering a building with intent. A preliminary examination is scheduled for April 15 at 32-A District Court.

Detroit man faces possible life sentence for attempted murder in Harper Woods, police say
HARPER WOODS, Mich. – A Detroit man is facing the possibility of life in prison for an attempted murder in Harper Woods, police said. Tyren Wesly Williams, 23, of Detroit, got into an argument with another man around 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 19400 block of Kenosha Street in Harper Woods, according to authorities. During the argument, Williams pulled out a 9 mm handgun and fired a shot at the other man, officials said. Williams fled the scene with the handgun, according to officialsHarper Woods detectives executed a search warrant Monday at a home in Detroit. Williams was arraigned Wednesday in 32-A District Court on one count of assault with intent to murder and a felony firearm violation.
