Dr. Joneigh S. Khaldun spoke to Local 4 about the state of Michiganโs โreturn to normalโ amid the COVID-19 pandemic. She has helped make some of the most important decisions in Michiganโs fight against the virus. Before she worked with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), she was the Director and Health Office for the Detroit Health Department. She oversaw a community health assessment, established a reproductive health network and led new human service efforts. Michigan receives $4.35M in funding to address suicide in adult men
LANSING, Mich. โ The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) received funding to address suicide in adult men. The funding is worth $4.35 million and will be used over the next five years. More than 48,000 people died by suicide in the United States in 2018, according to the CDC. READ: Suicide prevention support and mental health resources available in USOfficials said two-thirds of suicide deaths in Michigan are adult men. The funding will go toward the MDHHS program Preventing Suicide in Michigan Men (PRiSSM) and will work to reduce the number of deaths and attempts among men ages 25 and older.

Michigans top medical official explains true severity of states recent COVID-19 spike
LANSING, Mich. Michigans top medical official spoke specifically about the states recent increase in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases Thursday and broke down the actual severity of the situation. The Grand Rapids Region has had three straight weeks of increasing rates of cases, Khaldun said. The region is now at 45 cases per million people per day, which is higher than the other seven regions. The Traverse City, Jackson and Upper Peninsula regions are all under 20 cases per million people per day, according to the state. We have seen in other states is that hospitalizations and deaths tend to increase seven weeks after the cases are identified, Khaldun said.
