LAPEER COUNTY, MI -- Westbound I-69 traffic is expected to be shifted starting Friday, May 20, to make room for a 7-mile freeway reconstruction project that stretches from M-24 to Lake George Road. Love will heal Oxford after tragic school shooting, community leaders pledge at vigil attended by thousands
That’s the only way to mend hearts broken by a shooting at Oxford High School, said community leaders who tried to help start the healing process Friday night. Three days earlier, a sophomore at Oxford High School allegedly brought a 9mm handgun in his backpack and opened fire on his classmates in a crowded hallway. Oxford High School, and the children within it, is the pride of the community. People from Lake Orion and other neighboring communities visited Oxford to show support, as well as former residents and Oxford High School alumni who moved on after graduating. Car hits, kills man attempting to cross M-24 on foot in Lapeer County
LAPEER, MI -- A 50-year-old Lapeer man died Sunday evening after he was hit by a car while attempting to cross M-24 in Lapeer County. Lapeer County 911 dispatched Lapeer County Sheriff’s deputies at 9:21 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, to a traffic crash involving a pedestrian near the intersection of North Lapeer Road (M-24) and Sawdust Corners Road in Lapeer County’s Mayfield Township, according to a sheriff’s office news release. Christopher Luzi, 50, of Lapeer, was attempting to cross west on North Lapeer Road (M-24), north of the Sawdust Corners Road intersection, on foot. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police Lapeer Post and the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit. Police pursuit of armed man in stolen vehicle ends in Lapeer crash, multiple injuries reported
The attempt was unsuccessful and the man fled on foot to the 10000 block of Saginaw Street, according to a Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office news release. A short time later, Genesee County Dispatch contacted Lapeer County Dispatch and advised that they were working with OnStar to find the vehicle, which had been tracked to the north end of Lapeer County, police said. 5 Multiple vehicle crash on M-24 in LapeerOne victim remains in the hospital and is receiving treatment, according to the sheriff’s office. Multi-vehicle crash shuts down portion of M-24 in Lapeer
LAPEER, MI -- A portion of M-24 in Lapeer between Turrill Road and Demille Road remains closed into the evening Thursday following a multi-vehicle crash. Officers could be seen at the scene of a crash involving at least four vehicles around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, May 27. A white pickup truck was flipped, resting on the sidewalk on the east side of the road. A grey pickup truck was seen on the bed of a tow truck. The Lapeer Fire Department could be seen continuing to clear the road.mlive.com
Man dies in Lapeer County crash that shut down portion of M-24 for 8 hours
METAMORA TWP., MI -- A 34-year-old Millington man was killed in a crash that shut down a portion of M-24 in Lapeer County for eight hours Tuesday, police said. Metamora Township police responded shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, to a two-vehicle crash on M-24 (South Lapeer Road) near Brocker Road. The Dodge Ram then collided head-on into a 2015 Peterbilt water truck, police said. The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 34-year-old Millington man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Metamora Police Department was assisted at the scene by Lapeer County Central Dispatch, Metamora Township First Responders, the Metamora Township Fire Department, Lapeer County EMS, the Lapeer Township Police Department, the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police Lapeer Post, Michigan State Police Reconstruction Unit and Byers Towing.mlive.com

Couple on motorcycle killed by 'erratic' driver who crossed center line in Lapeer County, police say
Two people were killed in an Aug. 25, 2019, crash on M-24 in Lapeer County. (Lapeer County Sheriff's Office)MAYFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A couple riding a motorcycle in Lapeer County were killed over the weekend when an erratic driver swerved across the center line and struck the motorcycle head-on, according to deputies. Lapeer County deputies were called at 3:41 p.m. Sunday to M-24 north of Mayfield Road in Mayfield Township, officials said. Investigators will present their findings to the Lapeer County Prosecutor's Office for possible criminal charges, authorities said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office at 810-656-1015.
I-69 shut down in Lapeer County due to power line problem
IMLAY CITY, Mich. - Both directions of I-69 have been shut down in Lapeer County due to a power line problem, police said. The highway is closed between Wilder Road and M-24 in Imlay City, according to authorities. Traffic will be diverted to M-24, through Imlay City and back to Wilder Road, police said. Authorities are asking drivers to avoid the area during the closure, which is expected to last for six hours. No additional details about the power line problem were released.
