JACKSON COUNTY, MI -- A busy Jackson County road is closing for three weeks for repairs. The Jackson County Department of Transportation is closing Van Horn Road between M-50 and Rives Junction Road for culvert repair, ditching and recycling. The closure begins Monday, Aug. 8. LENAWEE COUNTY, MI -- A Lenawee County resident is hospitalized in serious condition after being hit by a truck Wednesday, police said. Troopers from the Michigan State Police Monroe Post responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian at about 6:50 a.m. Oct. 6, on M-52 south of M-50 in Franklin Township in northern Lenawee County, police said. The pedestrian was taken to ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital in Adrian with life-threatening injuries, police said. M-52 between M-50 and W. Russell Road was closed for about three hours as a result of the incident, police said. MONROE COUNTY, MI – A man was killed Friday evening in a head-on crash with an oncoming pickup on M-50 in Monroe County. Rescue crews were called at 6:06 p.m. July 2, to a two-vehicle rollover crash on M-50 near Dixon Road in Raisinville Township, according to Michigan State Police. A Ford Taurus going east on M-50 crossed the centerline and collided with a Ford F-150 going west causing the pickup to roll multiple times, police said. The driver of the Taurus was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Ida Township Fire Department, Dundee Township Fire Department, LMR Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

EATON COUNTY, MI – Two teens were killed Saturday morning and several others were seriously injured when a teen driver ran a stop sign and crashed into a passing vehicle. The two other occupants, both 15, were taken to an area hospital to be treated for serious injuries, police said. MONROE, Mich. – A 47-year-old woman from Hudson was arrested Friday in connection with the death of Monroe County Animal Control officer Darrian Young. Michele Anne Dropulich was arraigned Saturday on charges of second degree murder and operating while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving causing death. Police believe Dropulich was speeding when she ran a red light at the intersection of Raisinville and South Custer roads on June 4, striking Young’s vehicle, killing her. Police said lab results revealed Dropulich was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Dropulich is being held at the Monroe County Jail.
Resurfacing planned for Main Street in Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, MI -- Drivers in Brooklyn should prepare for delays downtown next week. The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin road work on M-50, or Main Street, in the southeastern Jackson County village, the agency said in a news release. Construction is expected to begin at 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28 and last until the evening of Thursday, Oct. 1. The vehicle is described as a black 2014 Dodge Caravan with no license plate. At some point before the crash, the Dodge Caravan was damaged from the front end.

MONROE, Mich. The Monroe County Sheriffs Office is investigating a traffic crash involving a Monroe County Sheriffs Animal Control Division vehicle from their department that occurred in Monroe on Thursday. Officials say a 44-year-old woman was driving westbound on M-50 and disregarded a red light at the intersection of Raisinville and South Custer roads, striking the county sheriffs vehicle that was traveling south on Rasinville Road. The driver of the county sheriffs vehicle was transported to the hospital and listed in critical condition. Officials say the woman driver, from Hudson, Michigan, sustained serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital. The woman is believed to have been involved in a previous hit-and-run incident in Monroe, officials said.

After being cleared medically, the suspect was lodged in the Monroe County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and reckless driving. A man was jailed Saturday night after fleeing from police that created a high-speed chase through Monroe neighborhoods and ended when the suspect crashed at M-50 and Telegraph Rd. After being cleared medically, the suspect, 26, was lodged in the Monroe County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and reckless driving. Police said at one point the man started the vehicle and left the scene at a high rate of speed. The chase lasted for several minutes and ended when the suspect crashed the vehicle into an electrical pole on the southwest corner of M-50 and S. Telegraph.
