Zingerman’s kicks off annual fundraiser to benefit Ann Arbor domestic violence shelter
ANN ARBOR, MI - An annual fundraiser benefiting an Ann Arbor-area domestic violence shelter and named in honor of the beloved corgi of Zingerman’s co-founder Ari Weinzweig is back for its seventh year. The Jelly Bean Jump Up fundraiser runs through February and benefits SafeHouse Center, a shelter and sexual abuse advocacy organization based in Pittsfield Township. All proceeds from sales at Zingerman’s Mail Order Warehouse Shop at 710 Phoenix Drive in Ann Arbor on Friday, Feb. 11, will be donated to SafeHouse, officials said. Weinzweig started the fundraiser in 2016 after his dog, named Jelly Bean, died the year prior. Washtenaw County funds SafeHouse, which also runs a 24/7 helpline, to the tune of at least $250,000 annually, the resolution said. “We are the county’s safety net,” Dill said of stopgap measures to support survivors. SafeHouse Center’s board also announced Wednesday the law firm it had initially hired to conduct the internal investigation had withdrawn based on “pre-existing affiliations with certain institutions that employ select SafeHouse board members,” according to a statement.

SafeHouse Center, a nonprofit, operates a 24/7 helpline and a free shelter for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. As of Tuesday, Sept. 28, Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners Chair Sue Shink and Commissioners Shannon Beeman, Caroline Sanders and Katie Scott had signed the statement. The nonprofit’s board includes Washtenaw County’s sheriff and county administrator, among other business and community leaders. SafeHouse Center operates out of a Washtenaw County building in Pittsfield Township. Use of the building is donated by the county, according to financial statements, and the group received roughly $1.6 million in government grants during the fiscal year ending in 2020.

Until 11 p.m. on Friday, March 5, pet parents around Ann Arbor can submit photos of their favorite furry companion. Submit your favorite pet photo. Pet names will be displayed with their photos, and pet parents can also leave a small blurb about their pet. Submissions are free but community members can help their favorite pet move up in the ranks by buying votes.
Zingerman’s 6th annual fundraiser to benefit SafeHouse goes virtual amid pandemic
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Zingerman’s Community of Businesses is hosting a virtual dinner Tuesday night to wrap up a month-long fundraiser benefiting SafeHouse Center. The sixth annual Jelly Bean Jump Up will feature a three course meal from Zingerman’s Roadhouse, which participants can order online and pick up before the event. The Jelly Bean Jump Up will take place 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funds raised from Jelly Bean Jump Up will benefit Ann Arbor’s SafeHouse Center, who serves domestic violence and sexual assault survivors in Washtenaw County. Virtual quilt show to support survivors of domestic violence around Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR, Mich. On Saturday, SafeHouse Center and The Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild will host a biennial quilt show to benefit survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Through six slideshow galleries, 300 handmade quilts will be displayed for purchase at the Celebrate the Quilt from Home virtual show. In lieu of an admission fee, viewers of the online galleries are asked to donate to SafeHouse Center. All of the proceeds from the quilt purchases will go to SafeHouse Center, an Ann Arbor-based non-profit organization that provides safety, resources and advocacy for survivors of violence and assault. The Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild has been partnering with SafeHouse Center for over 30 years.

5th annual Purple Run in Ann Arbor to benefit SafeHouse Center
