Stranger steps forward to help Metro Detroit man after thief takes $700 from wallet

WYANDOTTE, Mich. – A man was caught on camera taking money out of wallet sitting on a store counter. The wallet was accidentally left by a 72-year-old man at the Shopper’s Valley store in Wyandotte. The man said when he realized he left it, he rushed back and found it in the same place. The man said the money was saved up to pay for his property taxes. Wyandotte police located and arrested the man accused of stealing the money.

$200,000 worth of inventory stolen from Taylor couple’s family business

TAYLOR, Mich. – A Taylor couple is desperate to catch the thief who stole $200,000 worth of inventory from their business in the middle of the night. “I came running outside,” Phillip Blackson said. His truck, trailer, gear and mulcher were all taken, they said. “Altogether, $200,000 worth of inventory,” Phillip Blackson said. Phillip Blackson is offering a $1,000 cash reward.

Car theft at Huron Township rail yard leaves 1 dead

HURON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man was killed Thursday after several automobile thefts at a Wayne County rail yard. Police said several people tried to steal cars and one ended up in a nearby pond. At about 4 a.m., Huron Township police got a call about several people trying to steal cars from the CSX Rail Yard on Pennsylvania Road, between Huron River Drive and I-275. At some point, one of the drivers lost control and the vehicle ended up overturned in a pond on the properties. CSX Transportation said three of the stolen cars have been recovered and thanked officers from the Romulus and Huron Township police departments for their quick response.

One of the vehicles ended up in a pond on the property. It’s not clear if anyone suffered injuries. Police swarmed the area Thursday morning. CSX Transportation is investigating.

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. Police said a man used a stolen credit card to make purchases at three Oakland County stores on the first day of retail reopening in Metro Detroit. The man used the credit card to buy $484 worth of items at two stores in Waterford Township and a third store in White Lake, according to authorities. Tuesday was the first day of retail reopening in Metro Detroit after being shut down due to the coronavirus (COVID-19). Officials said the credit card had been stolen from the center console of an unlocked car. Anyone with information is asked to call Waterford police at 248-618-6077 or the anonymous tip line at 248-674-COPS.

Man steals $300 in change from Waterford Township gas station, officials say

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Waterford Township police are searching for a man who stole $300 worth of change from a gas station, officials said. Police said the incident happened at the BP gas station at 4663 Walton Boulevard. The man pulled up, unlocked the front door, walked into the store and removed the change box from the employee’s side of the counter, according to authorities. He was wearing a blue jacket, light-colored pants, light-colored shoes and a multicolored winter hat, police said. Anyone who recognizes him or has information about the incident is asked to call Waterford Township police at 248-618-6077 or the anonymous tip line at 248-674-COPS.

Man breaks into vending machine at I-275 rest area in Monroe County, police say

ASH TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man waited for the entire I-275 rest stop in Monroe County to empty out before breaking into the vending machine and stealing all the money inside, police said. Michigan State Police troopers were called around 3:30 p.m. Jan. 26 to the rest stop in Ash Township. They found the vending machine had been broken into and damaged. Police said the man sat at the rest stop and waited for it to be unoccupied before breaking into the machine. Anyone who recognizes the man or has any information about the case is asked to call Michigan State Police at 734-242-3500.
