Nick Baumgartner is from Iron River, which is way up in the Upper Peninsula. His sport is snowboard cross, and this Olympics is his fourth. He will be the oldest member of Team U.S.A. in Beijing as he turned 40-years old last month.
University of Michigan alum Mason Ferlic competes in his first Olympics in Tokyo
Mason Ferlic ran the men’s 3000M Steeplechase finishing with a time of 8:20:23 finishing eighth in his heat. He did not advance to the final. Ferlic is a doctoral student at the University of Michigan. Local 4’s Jamie Edmonds caught up with Ferlic before he left for Tokyo.
Former Detroit Olympic fencer recounts 1972 competition in Munich
The excitement continues in Olympic competition, particularly in women’s fencing where American Lee Kiefer won goal over the weekend, redefining the USA Olympic program. The win, however, conjures a memory for Olympic fencer, Tyrone Simmons, who was sent to Munich in 1972 from the University of Detroit Mercy to represent his nation.
