Family in shock after teen bystander killed by stray bullet at Detroit gas station

DETROIT – A 23-year-old man was taken into police custody Thursday. He’s accused of being involved with a shooting that killed an innocent bystander.

Morgan Dawkins had just gotten to the gas station with her friend when shots started being fired.

Her grandmother, Evelyn Lynn, and her mother, Theresa Dawkins, said a coward opened fire in the parking lot at the gas station on Detroit’s east side Wednesday. Morgan Dawkins was still in her best friend’s car when they were both shot.

Morgan was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died.

Gov. Whitmer outlines Michigan’s new schedule for lifting COVID rules, getting life ‘back to normal’

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer officially revealed Michigan’s new schedule for eliminating COVID restrictions and returning to normal.

On Wednesday, the governor’s office hinted that the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services would update its pandemic order after the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention made changes to its recommendations for fully vaccinated people.

Survey: Nearly half of Americans say they experienced changes in physical, mental health amid pandemic

Nearly half of Americans said they’ve experienced changes in their physical and mental health during the pandemic, according to the 2021 Healthy Now survey from the Cleveland Clinic and Parade Magazine.

“While the majority of Americans are doing well in terms of their health, there’s still room for improvement, and some of the things we should focus on are mental health, sleep, diet, physical activity -– the cornerstones of preventive health,” said Dr. Neha Vyas with Cleveland Clinic.
