University of Michigan graduates can watch online graduation inside Big House
ANN ARBOR โ The University of Michigan will stick to a virtual graduation ceremony but allow graduates to at least watch the event on screens inside the football stadium, officials said. The university has been criticized by some parents and students for not having a traditional graduation in the stadium as COVID-19 vaccines become widely available and restrictions on large gatherings are eased. The football stadium now can be opened at 20% capacity, a reason that was given Thursday for opening it to graduates on May 1. The commencement speakers will be elsewhere but visible on screens at the Big House. Itโs the second year that a traditional graduation has been canceled at U-M because of the coronavirus.
Ann Arbor Public Schools announce tentative dates for in-person graduation ceremonies
ANN ARBOR โ In a recent update, Ann Arbor Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeanice Kerr Swift announced that the district is moving forward with plans to hold in-person graduation ceremonies this year. Last year, all ceremonies were canceled due to concerns over the then-new coronavirus pandemic and each high school organized drive-thru events and virtual ceremonies for its seniors. Swift confirmed that Huron, Pioneer and Skyline high schools will have traditional graduation ceremonies outdoors at Eastern Michigan Universityโs stadium. Tentative dates for the three ceremonies:Huron High School: Wednesday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m.Pioneer High School: Thursday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m.Skyline High School: Monday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m.Community and Pathways high schools are also planning to hold outdoor commencement ceremonies. In addition to the graduation update, Swift announced that all Class of 2021 students will receive a celebratory yard sign like last year.
University of Michiganโs Spring Commencement will stay virtual this year
ANN ARBOR โ The University of Michigan has announced that its Spring Commencement will take place virtually on May 1 at noon. During a normal year, Michigan Stadium would be bustling with graduates, their friends and family. โWe still do not know what public health measures will need to be in place in May to hold events like commencement. Studentsโ individual names will not be read during the virtual event and diplomas will be mailed to their permanent residences. Additionally, President Schlissel announced that any graduates who missed an in-person commencement due to COVID-19 are invited to participate in any commencement ceremony of their choosing in the future.
Eastern Michigan University extends winter break to prevent COVID-19 spread
YPSILANTI โ Eastern Michigan University has announced two revisions to its academic calendar for the Winter 2021 semester to address the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This move extends the winter break between semesters, which begins on Dec. 24. There will be no winter break in 2021; the University will hold classes that week. EMU has already taken measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 on campus, including delaying student move-in to dorms and increasing the number of online classes this fall. Nearby in Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan issued an emergency two-week stay-in-place order for all undergraduate students due to a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases.

That wont happen for the class of 2020, so a special ceremony was held on all of the major TV Networks. Its a hint of disappointment for many seniors apart of Class of 2020. All of my roommates are also graduating, but unfortunately thats now things ended up, said Lindsey Scheidler.
