Detroit officers were responding to a request for backup on Monday at 1 a.m., police said. The vehicle had its lights and sirens on and was traveling east on Jeffries Service Drive in a marked Ford Explorer, officials said.
Ford to cut back F-150 production due to chip shortage

Puskar, File)CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ Ford Motor Co. said Thursday that it will cut shifts at two of its U.S. manufacturing plants next week, due to the worldwide chip shortage that has also impacted other automakers. Starting Monday, Ford will cut two shifts at its Dearborn, Michigan, facility, going down to one shift per day. AdFord isn't alone in cutting back production due to the shortage of chips needed to produce cars. General Motors will have downtime at three of its factories โ one in the U.S, one in Canada and one in Mexico โ due to the chip shortage, starting Feb. 8. Other automakers like Nissan, Fiat Chrysler and Toyota have also been impacted by the chip shortage.
US probes complaints that Ford tailgate recall didnโt work

Puskar, File)DETROIT โ U.S. safety regulators are investigating complaints that a Ford pickup truck tailgate recall didnโt fix the problem. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has 11 complaints that a recall of power tailgates on 300,000 Super Duty pickups failed to rectify the issue. The agency says it also has received reports from Ford about unintended tailgate openings after the recall repairs were made. Ford recalled the F-250, F-350 and F-450 trucks in 2019 because the power tailgates could open while being driven.
17-year-old injured in shooting on Lenore Avenue, Detroit police say
DETROIT โ A 17-year-old was injured in a shooting Tuesday evening in the 18900 block of Lenore Avenue, according to the Detroit Police Department. Police said that at about 6 p.m., the victim was sitting in his Ford Explorer in the driveway when an unknown vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots. He was taken to a hospital and listed in temporary serious condition. Anyone with information is asked to contact DPDโs Eighth Precinct at 313-596-5840 or Crime Stoppers at 800-Speak Up. Ford recalls 375,000 Explorers due to part that can break and cause crash
Ford is recalling 375,000 Explorers due to a part that can break and lead to a crash. The recall affects Explorers from model years 2013 through 2017. Ford officials revealed the SUVs could have a fractured section of the rear suspension toe link. That can significantly diminish steering control and increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will complete an inspection and replace the part, if necessary, Ford said.

12-year-old girl hits, kills man and dog
CNN(CNN) - A 12-year-old girl hit a man and his dog with an SUV in Houston, killing them instantly, police said. Tomas Mejia Tol's daughter was driving the Ford Explorer around an apartment complex Thursday evening, police said in a statement. "The child (driver) began to pull forward from a parking space as a man was walking with his dogs through the parking lot," police said. The man and one dog were pronounced dead at the scene and the girl's father was detained. Prosecutors said he told investigators he was the one driving, but they later found out it was the girl.
Ford recalls select Explorer, Lincoln Aviator vehicles

Here's the info from Ford:Ford Motor Company is issuing a safety compliance recall for select 2020 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator vehicles for a potentially missing manual park release cover. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards require the manual park release cover be in place and only removable with a tool. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards require the gear positions and selected gear to be displayed whenever the shifter is not in park. Affected vehicles were built at Chicago Assembly Plant and include:2020 Ford Explorer vehicles built from March 27, 2019 to July 24, 20192020 Lincoln Aviator vehicles built from April 10, 2019 to July 24, 2019Dealers will inspect for the manual park release cover and install one, if necessary.
