Families forced from homes after suspicious fire in Superior Township
After several suspicious fires, families were forced from their homes in a Washtenaw County community. Four fires within a week and a half now have state police investigating. Fortunately, nobody has been hurt, but neighbors are concerned a serial arsonist is setting these fires.
Traffic watch: Road construction round-up for Washtenaw County, Aug. 7
ANN ARBOR, MI -- There are a handful of construction projects in Washtenaw County that could impact commute times, traffic and road closures in the week. Crane Road: Pittsfield Township can expect a lane closure at Crane Road between Textile Road and US-12 until Aug. 12. Liberty Road between Zeeb Road and Wagner Road: There will be intermittent lane closures at Liberty Road between Zeeb Road and Wagner Road in Scio Township until Aug. 11. Intersection of Liberty Road and Zeeb Road: The intersection in Scio Township is closed to all traffic during roundabout construction. Geddes Road: Superior Township can expect a lane closure on Geddes Road, just west of Prospect Road until Aug. 12.

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI - The second in a series of temporary Amtrak closures at Washtenaw County railroad crossings is slated to begin on Wednesday. The Superior Road railroad crossing, between Huron River Drive and Geddes Road north of Ypsilanti, is slated to close to all traffic beginning on July 20, and lasting for approximately four days, according to a notice from the Washtenaw County Road Commission. The Road Commission has posted a detour around the Superior Road crossing, located in Superior Township across the Huron River from Trinity Health St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor. It routes vehicles along North Huron River Drive, Leforge Road and Geddes Road.

Geddes Road ramps to southbound U.S. 23 closed to inspect bridge after vehicle strike
ANN ARBOR, MI – The ramps to southbound U.S. 23 from Geddes Road in Ann Arbor are closed until noon for a bridge inspection after an oversized truck hit the bridge Friday morning. The Michigan Department of Transportation announced it has closed all access to the ramp from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 22, to inspect the bridge for possible structure damage. Motorists should avoid the area while inspection crews are on scene, officials said. More information about the bridge will be shared once the inspection is completed, officials said. The temporary closure is necessary to provide the safest work area possible for crews inspected the bridge, officials said.

The crash was reported at about 1:39 p.m. May 4, on northbound U.S. 23 between Geddes Road and Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor Township, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Police have the entrance ramp to northbound U.S. 23 at Geddes Road closed and are directing traffic off the freeway. Police have confirmed there are injuries, but the extent of the crash is unknown at this time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area while crews are on scene.

Early signs show the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday morning. Before all the chaos started Wednesday at an apartment complex in Superior Township, Dakota Turner was unknowingly right there with the gunman. “I’m going around and I see this guy and he’s got a really like mean stare on his face,” recalled Turner. Turner was working his landscaping job in the neighborhood and thought offering this strange man some help was the right thing to do.

The affected area is in Superior Township, bordered by North Prospect, Geddes, East Clark and North Harris roads. Residents should stay inside if they’re home or avoid the area, if not, according to the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.
Concordia University students in Ann Arbor plant flags for 9/11 tribute

Students at the Ann Arbor university have placed flags around the roundabout connecting Earhart and Geddes roads to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11. The Star International Academy expands to Canton/Wayne-Westland Area
CANTON Hamadeh Educational Services (HES) and Star International Academy (SIA) announced the official groundbreaking of Star International Academy Canton (SIAC), an expansion of SIA, on December 3 at 10 a.m. at 45081 Geddes Road. SIAC will be managed by Hamadeh Educational Services (HES), which also manages four additional highly celebrated schools in Michigan Star International Academy, Universal Academy, Noor International Academy and Universal Learning Academy. The HES team has noticed an influx in students commuting from the Canton/Wayne-Westland area and saw the need to establish a positive educational presence in the community, she added. The building was purchased in June of last year and is projected to open for the 2020-2021 school year. The Canton initiative will inherit the same security system as Star International Academy in Dearborn that ranked it as the number 1 Safest School in Michigan.

Christmas tree drop-off points in Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR – Ready to part with this year's tree? The city of Ann Arbor has released a list of drop-off locations for undecorated Christmas trees. All ornaments, plastic, tinsel, nails and tree stands must be removed before leaving trees in these lots. If you miss the deadline, you must store your tree until April, when the city's compost collection resumes, or you can pay a fee to deliver your tree to the Compost Center at 4150 Platt Road. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. - 4 p.m Monday - Friday.
