Traverse City raptor center invites public to witness release of bald eagle

TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. -- A rehabilitated bald eagle is ready to fly free once again — and the public is invited to watch her return to the wild. Skegemog Raptor Center, a Traverse City-based nonprofit raptor rehabilitation facility, is publicly releasing a juvenile bald eagle back into its natural habitat this Saturday, Oct. 23 at Samels Farm education center in Williamsburg. “This is a good way to educate the public about some of the hazards these birds face,” said James Manley, Skegemog Raptor Center’s executive director. Still in its first year of operation, Skegemog Raptor Center has taken in more than 60 birds so far — and most of its patients have similar stories to this young bald eagle. More information on the Skegemog Raptor Center can be found at skegemograptorcenter.org and on its Facebook page.

Penalties a ‘big factor’ in Michigan’s loss to Michigan State

Michigan was on the verge of field goal range late in the third quarter Saturday trailing by three against Michigan State. Hayes' false start was one of 10 Michigan penalties on Saturday, with most of them proving costly in a 27-24 loss to MSU. “There was quite a difference in the penalties,” Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said. “We know Michigan State was kind of a run-team, so we wanted to stop the run game,” Hill said. “We didn’t have the personal fouls (MSU had four 15-yard penalties),” Harbaugh said.
