Parts of California get a White Christmas after snowfall
Parts of California are getting a White Christmas after all, with snowfall pounding mountains across the state. Other areas of California, however, saw a wet and rainy Christmas as storms continue to drench the state, causing flash flooding and evacuations in some areas over the holiday period. At Donner Pass in the Sierra Nevada, officials with the University of California, Berkeley's Central Sierra Snow Laboratory wondered on Twitter if the recent snowfall could break the snowiest December record of 179 inches (4.6 meters) set in 1970.news.yahoo.com

I know that based on recent weather you may be doubting the chance of a White Christmas. Don’t give up hope yet, as much of our data shows there could be a last-minute white Christmas. Monroe County gets White Christmas for 2020
This was the first White Christmas - with snowfall on the ground - in three years. The Monroe County region enjoyed its first White Christmas in three years Friday. The storm brought out the salt trucks and plows as even more snow fell Christmas Day. But in 2017, five inches of snow fell Dec. 23-24 to assure a white cover that year. Santa Claus visits children, patients at Hurley Medical Center with Flint parade
FLINT, MI -- Days before Christmas, Santa Claus made a special stop in Flint to visit the children at Hurley Medical Center. Mundy Township firefighter Chad Watson reached out to Hurley’s Public Safety Director Matt Murray inquiring about the annual Glow for Miracles event. Metro Detroit weather: Sloppy weekend ahead
But starting in the mid-afternoon Saturday, expect some rain and snow showers, transitioning to rain as temperatures will max out in the upper 30s. Lake-effect snow showers behind the organized snow could add to those totals somewhat. But whatever falls on the 24th will likely be around for Christmas Day. More lake-effect snow showers are possible Friday, too. Christmas Day will be even colder with highs in the mid 20s.

DETROIT – Expect an active forecast going into the Christmas holiday, as the snow potential is starting to ramp up. Most of the moisture from that system should hang out in the northern part of the state, but rain and snow showers are possible. White Christmas chanceTemperatures will start dropping on Christmas Eve after a relatively mild start to next week. Highs will stay below freezing on Dec. 24, so some late rain and snow Wednesday will transition to all snow by Thursday morning. Plus, with Christmas Day highs only reaching the mid-20s, whatever does show up Thursday will likely hang around even past the official measurement time of 7 a.m. Expect some flurries on Christmas Day.

As for today, I think we’ll only see occasional flurries or light snow showers, with no impact on our roads. Highs will struggle to get to freezing (32 degrees -- 0 degrees Celsius), with a north wind at 5 to 10 mph. Mostly cloudy Thursday night, with lows in the mid 20s (-4 degrees Celsius). So right now, I think we’ll start the day mostly cloudy, become partly cloudy for a few hours, then become mostly cloudy again. Highs Saturday should get to near 40 degrees (4 to 5 degrees Celsius), and highs Sunday in the upper 30s (3 to 4 degrees Celsius).

Look for clouds in the morning giving way to Saturday sunshine through the afternoon as highs hit the lower 40s with light winds SW 5-12 mph. It’s going to be close to that on Monday around Metro Detroit with tons of sunshine, and we will stay in those 40s with dry weather through Christmas. No big storms coming our way, so there is seemingly no chance for a White Christmas in Detroit.
