Deputies suspended in Nichols case didn't keep body cams on
Authorities say two sheriffโs deputies who have been suspended for five days for their role in the arrest of Tyre Nichols failed to keep their body cameras activated after they went to the location where Nichols had been beaten by five Memphis police officers.
Macomb County deputies rescue suspect from drowning after chase
MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. A man was saved from drowning by deputies after fleeing from them in Macomb County. Macomb County Sheriff, Anthony Wickersham, says it all started during an undercover drug operation. Our sheriffs enforcement team was looking at a house that was selling narcotics in the city. The suspect realized he could not swim and nearly drowned. The 60-year-old suspect who already had a warrant was arrested after being pulled from the water and taken to the hospital.
3-month-old Pontiac girl dies after being found unresponsive, not breathing
PONTIAC, Mich. A 3-month-old baby girl died this weekend at a home on Cottage Street in Pontiac after she was found unresponsive and not breathing on Saturday morning. After about an hour, the womans oldest son approached her and stated something was wrong with the baby. The mother went to the bedroom and found the infant unresponsive and not breathing. Deputies, the Waterford Regional Fire Department, and Star EMS went to the home after a report was made about the incident. The victim was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital by Paramedics from Star EMS where physicians were unable to resuscitate the child.
Oakland County deputy attacked by dog while assisting CPS at Pontiac home
PONTIAC, Mich. A German Shepard and two young children were taken from a Pontiac home Saturday afternoon. Police said it wasnt the first time deputies had been called to the residence regarding reports of child abuse. A deputy fired at the dog and the injured German Shepard ran back to its owner. The two children were turned over to a caseworker from CPS and the two women were taken into custody to be interviewed by detectives. An officer with Oakland County Animal Control took custody of the German Shepard.
10-year-old western Michigan boy struck and killed by pickup truck
BRIDGETON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A 10-year-old western Michigan boy has been struck and killed by a pickup truck. WOOD-TV reports Saturday that the child was hit about 7:30 p.m. Friday in Newaygo Countyโs Bridgeton Township, north of Grand Rapids. He later was pronounced dead at a hospital. Sheriffโs deputies say the 20-year-old pickup driver was grading a driveway when the boy was struck.
