There were no illnesses or injuries caused by the chemical spill. Police have not provided any information on the chemical that spilled. Detroit grocery store a total loss after massive fire
DETROIT – The Harper Food Center on Detroit’s east side was burned down and destroyed in a fire that happened Saturday night. Harper Food Center is on Harper near Chalmers. 8 hospitalized, dozens displaced in massive Mount Clemens apartment complex fire
MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – Some tenants at the River North Village Apartments in Mount Clemens jumped from their balconies to escape a massive fire with heavy smoke and flames that crews worked for hours to put out overnight Sunday, a witness told Local 4 News. According to another witness, others jumped from a window to escape the fire at the apartment building on North River Road. Local 4 News reached out to the American Red Cross and Macomb County Sheriff’s Office to check on whether anyone was hurt or displaced. Emergency construction starting on Michigan dam that failed
EDENVILLE, Mich. – Crews have started emergency construction work on a portion of a central Michigan dam that collapsed last spring and contributed to flooding that destroyed homes and forced the evacuations of about 10,000 people. Excavation work will be done below the Edenville Dam in Midland County, according to state officials. The dam failed during a steady rain in May, draining Wixom Lake and unleashing the Tittabawassee River, which then overwhelmed the Sanford dam, about 140 miles (225 kilometers) north of Detroit. Work also is being done inside the Tobacco River spillway in Gladwin and Midland counties to prepare it for being lowered by 21 feet (6.4 meters), officials said. The Edenville Dam is classified as a high hazard dam.
2 found dead after Upper Peninsula house explosion
HARDWOOD, Mich. – Emergency crews found two people dead following a house explosion in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, police said. The explosion happened Thursday morning near the Dickinson County community of Hardwood, according to Michigan State Police. The two people were located dead at the scene. Authorities didn’t immediately release the identities of those killed. State police said investigators were working to determine what caused the explosion.
Divers recover 6-year-old boys body in Lake Michigan; Grand Rapids teen still missing
HOLLAND, Mich. Divers recovered the body of a 6-year-old boy who went missing in Lake Michigan on Saturday at Holland State Park, while the search for a 17-year-old continues. At around 5 p.m. Saturday, crews rushed to Holland State Park after a 6-year-old and 17-year-old were both reported missing, according to WOOD-TV. The search for the two started Sunday morning at Holland State Park. The Ottawa County Sheriffs Office says its dive team found the boys body around 7:15 p.m. Sunday. Crews are still searching for Grand Rapids 17-year-old Christian Ngabo, who vanished while swimming with his 19-year-old brother.
Search for missing 6-year-old boy and teen continues in Lake Michigan
HOLLAND, Mich. Crews continued searching for a missing 6-year-old and 17-year-old who officials fear might have drowned in Lake Michigan Saturday afternoon. The search for the two continued at Holland State Park beginning 7 a.m. Sunday. At around 5 p.m. Saturday crews rushed to Holland State Park after both were reported missing, according to WOOD-TV. Officials are also looking for him on outside of the lake and not ruling he is in the water. The name of the missing teen is not being released.
