Watch: Amon-Ra St. Brown wins best catch at Pro Bowl, flaunts Pete Davidson tattoo
Amon-Ra St. Brown has won the NFL’s inaugural “best catch” competition. St. Brown caught his first pass while vaulting through the air off a trampoline, which drew a score of 85.0 from judges Snoop Doggs, Pete Davidson and LaDainian Tomlinson. St. Brown recruited his brother, Bears wideout Equanimeous St. Brown, to help him with his second catch. Then St. Brown flexed his right arm for the ESPN cameras, showing off a Pete Davidson No. Ragnow earned the start for the NFC in the flag football games, although didn’t do much given, you know, this was flag football and all.

mlive.comWatch: Jared Goff sharp at Pro Bowl, Amon-Ra St. Brown flips into pool for catch
The Pro Bowl is out, the Pro Bowl Games are in, and it was interesting if nothing else. All four Detroit Lions Pro Bowlers participated in the first day of festivities on Thursday night, with quarterback Jared Goff up first in the precision passing drill. Goff hasn’t thrown much since the Lions wrapped up their season in Green Bay last month, not that it showed in Las Vegas. Only Las Vegas’ Derek Carr (31 points) and Baltimore’s Tyler Huntley (21 points) had more. He teamed up with former NFL quarterback Jimmy Clausen to catch two footballs in the Blu Pool at the Horseshoe Las Vegas, the deepest pool in Sin City.
mlive.comDetroit Lions 2022 review: Offensive line joins the elites, despite injuries
The Detroit Lions have wrapped up the 2022 season. Everyone talks about building through the trenches, but the Lions have actually done it through years of heavy investment. Now the offensive line has managed to become not only the strength of this team, but the heart too. Through the air, Detroit allowed the second-fewest sacks in the league, and the third-lowest sack rate overall. Decker told Dan Campbell to keep Hank Fraley on staff as offensive line coach during the regime change last year.
mlive.comLions CB Jeff Okudah listed as questionable after suffering elbow injury
ALLEN PARK -- Jeff Okudah has been added to the Detroit Lions’ injury report after elbow pain limited him at practice on Friday. He’s officially questionable to play in the must-win game on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. The nature/extent of the injury is unknown, but it’s another challenge for a player who has struggled down the stretch. Now Okudah is battling an elbow injury too, heading into a game against Aaron Rodgers and the red-hot Packers. He’s officially listed as questionable, along with center Frank Ragnow (foot), fullback Jason Cabinda (knee) and defensive lineman Michael Brockers (ankle).
mlive.comDetroit Lions at Green Bay Packers: Fantasy guide and key matchups for Week 18
This post will serve as a fantasy guide while running through matchups to watch, team stats and the series history between the Lions and Packers. St. Brown has remained the top option, safety valve and do-it-all piece that helps make this offense tough to defend. Even in a quiet outing by his standards last week, St. Brown still made an impact, with all four receptions moving the chains. St. Brown has continued to be an efficient machine, with all four of his catches moving the chains last week. But there again, I do -- look, I like our players, man, I like our receiving corps, I like St. Brown.
mlive.comLions FB Jason Cabinda returns to practice, DeShon Elliott suited up too
ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions have inched a little closer toward full health, with fullback Jason Cabinda returning to practice on Thursday afternoon. Cabinda has been battling a knee injury after missing the first eight games of the season because of an ankle injury. With that, the only players sidelined on Thursday were center Frank Ragnow, defensive tackle Michael Brockers and guard Kayode Awosika. Detroit is healthier than it has been all season heading into Sunday’s must-win finale against the Green Bay Packers. As for Green Bay, quarterback Aaron Rodgers did not practice on Wednesday because of right thumb/knee injuries, although there seems to be no question about his availability for Sunday.
mlive.comDungeon of Doom: Can Lions recover against Justin Fields? Plus Frank Ragnow joins
ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions (7-8) were pounded and grounded to new lows against the Carolina Panthers in Week 16. But there is no rest to lick those wounds, with lethal Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields on the horizon as their season hangs in the balance. But that’s not all, with hosts Kyle Meinke and Ben Raven welcoming Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow. Subscribe to the Dungeon of Doom wherever you get your podcasts -- Spotify, Apple, Google -- Follow Benjamin Raven and Kyle Meinke on Twitter. “Oh yeah, it’s a dream come true, man,” Ragnow said last week.
mlive.comDetroit Lions without both starting safeties, Frank Ragnow at practice
ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions were without a handful of players at their first practice of the week, including starters Josh Reynolds, Frank Ragnow, DeShon Elliott and Kerby Joseph. The Pro Bowl center has managed a foot injury all season and missed the first two practices last week before playing through the injury and questionable designation. Joseph and Reynolds weren’t on last week’s injury report. The Lions were also without offensive guard Logan Stenberg, and linebacker and special teams ace Josh Woods at Wednesday’s practice. mlive.comLions trash field conditions in Carolina: ‘I didn’t think that was actually legal’
“Yeah, that field was tough,” Ragnow told MLive. The Lions were hammered by 15 points in Carolina, so obviously the field conditions did not impact the result of the game. But that doesn’t change the condition of the field, which Lions players said was below NFL standards. And the field firmed up unlike anything Lions players have ever seen. “I thought the field conditions were below NFL-level standard, specifically pregame,” quarterback Jared Goff said.
mlive.comFrank Ragnow listed as questionable against Panthers, Jason Cabinda among 3 out
ALLEN PARK -- Once again, Frank Ragnow was limited by toe pain throughout the practice week. Once again, he’s expected to play anyway. The Detroit Lions have listed their Pro Bowl center as questionable for Saturday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. Linebacker Derrick Barners (knee) is also questionable, while safety DeShon Elliott (shoulder), guard Kayode Awosika (ankle) and fullback Jason Cabinda (illness) have all been ruled out. He’s already changed positions from cornerback to safety, and has played just six defensive snaps all season despite the injuries at the position.
mlive.comLions’ Pro Bowler Frank Ragnow having most fun of career amid challenging season
ALLEN PARK -- Frank Ragnow has been playing through a painful foot injury, balancing the most fun he’s had in the NFL, tasting his first run of meaningful December football. So, when the Detroit Lions center found out he was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time, he was overwhelmed with emotion while taking a soak. For that to happen, it’s cool.”Related: Frank Ragnow named to Pro Bowl again: ‘The guy is a (expletive) warrior’Ragnow was limited to four games last year, undergoing surgery for a mangled toe. Jackson made the Pro Bowl as an alternate last season, so he’s been through this. Whether they’re in the Pro Bowl or not, to be able to play with three elite players like that is just incredible.
mlive.comDetroit Lions surprised by Pro Bowl snub for Penei Sewell, Taylor Decker
Receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had a good case, along with left tackle Taylor Decker and especially right tackle Penei Sewell. A year later, Sewell has been among the best offensive tackles, period. Still, he couldn’t beat out Trent Williams, Lane Johnson and Tristan Wirfs among NFC offensive tackles. I think if he’s not the best, he’s up there among the best tackles in the league. He’s growing in the game.”Sewell finished as first alternate among NFC offensive tackles, while Taylor Decker was fifth, much to the chagrin of Taylor Decker.

mlive.comFrank Ragnow named to Pro Bowl again: ‘The guy is a (expletive) warrior’
So, it’s big time (if he makes the Pro Bowl). Ragnow played through a fractured throat on his way to his first Pro Bowl nod in 2020, then insisted on playing through a blown-out tendon in his foot last year. “If one guy from the team got to go (to the Pro Bowl), it should be him, absolutely. He makes us all better.”Although Ragnow was the Lions’ only Pro Bowl selection, nine others were named alternates. I think if he’s not the best, he’s up there among the best tackles in the league.
mlive.comJared Goff showers Lions offensive line with luxury bags, 4-wheelers, pizza oven
In Jared Goff’s case, everything from luxury bags and watches to even an ATV. The quarterback lavishing gifts on his offensive line is a time-honored tradition this time of year, although with the Lions’ offensive line playing better than ever -- and Goff enjoying his best season in ages because of it -- he went all out this season. He chose a sampler platter of luxury gifts, and the linemen got to make their pick based on seniority. Left tackle Taylor Decker, the longest-tenured player on the team, drafted Louis Vuitton bags with the first overall pick. “That’s kinda backwards.”The offensive line was expected to be a strength of the team this season, and they’ve managed to do it despite never playing a single snap with the starting five on the field together.
mlive.comLions safety DeShon Elliott likely won’t play on Saturday against Panthers
DeShon Elliott injured his shoulder in the 20-17 win against the New York Jets over the weekend, and medical testing suggests he likely won’t be ready to suit up on Saturday against the Carolina Panthers. “I would say right now, (Elliott’s) looking like he probably won’t be able to make it,” head coach Dan Campbell said. Moore, a special teams ace best known for converting a pair of fake punts this season, replaced Elliott against the Jets. That leaves the Lions thin in the back end of their defense heading into the stretch run of a surprising playoff push. Campbell declined to say whether he thinks the Elliott injury could linger into future weeks.
mlive.comLions list prized rookie Aidan Hutchinson as questionable to play against Jets
ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions have listed prized rookie defensive end Aidan Hutchinson (illness) as questionable to play against the New York Jets in Week 15. Hutchinson, who leads all rookies with seven sacks and 39 pressures, was back at practice to end the week. He’s missed the last three games with an ankle injury. mlive.comJeff Okudah among 3 Lions players knocked out by illness
ALLEN PARK -- There’s something going around the Lions locker room. No, not playoff fever. Cornerback Jeff Okudah, receiver Kalif Raymond and quarterback Nate Sudfeld all showed up on the injury report because of illnesses that knocked them out of Wednesday’s practice. Left tackle Taylor Decker (elbow), linebacker Derrick Barnes (knee), safety DeShon Elliott (ankle) and center Frank Ragnow (foot) also did not practice, while running back D’Andre Swift (ankle) and guard Evan Brown (ankle) were limited.
mlive.comDetroit Lions without both starting guards, 3 key defenders for Thanksgiving
ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions will be without their starting offensive guards -- top four overall -- and key defenders Charles Harris (groin), Jeff Okudah (concussion protocol) and Josh Paschal (knee) on Thanksgiving. The Lions are already without guards Halapoulivaati Vaitai (back) and Tommy Kraemer (back), so things are tough on the interior of their stout offensive line. Awosika has logged eight offensive snaps since landing in Detroit. Skipper has allowed 16 pressures and two sacks across 289 offensive snaps. Awosika hasn’t seen much action, with eight offensive snaps, including one as an extra tight end on the season.
mlive.comFrank Ragnow, Malcolm Rodriguez, Ifeatu Melifonwu cleared to play for Lions
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- DJ Chark isn’t the only help on the way for the Detroit Lions. Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu have both been cleared to return from injuries on Sunday against the New York Giants, while center Frank Ragnow has received the green light to suit up as well. Ragnow has been battling toe pain going back to the opener. He was limited throughout practice this week, but like every week since Week 2, he’s good to go. Rodriguez is back this week, yet another step toward better health for the injury-ravaged Lions.
mlive.com‘I hate it’: Detroit Lions players want change to Ford Field turf
The Lions resurfaced their playing field in 2019 with a form of synthetic grass called slit film turf. Giants safety Julian Love -- that team’s player rep to the union -- says officials have already agreed to swap out the slit film turf there next offseason. The Lions have not revealed their plans for the turf at Ford Field, although they are due for a change soon. But players believe the surface at Ford Field could be contributing to the club’s unusually high injury rate. This year, safety Tracy Walker suffered yet another Achilles injury in Minnesota, which uses the same slit film turf as Ford Field.
mlive.comLions’ Frank Ragnow expected to play against Giants; Charles Harris hurt again
ALLEN PARK -- While the Detroit Lions are playing the waiting game with injured wideouts DJ Chark and Josh Reynolds, they are already confident they’ll have All-Pro center Frank Ragnow for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. We are, yep.”After some hard injury luck to open the season, the Lions are inching toward a better place. D’Andre Swift came off the injury report last week (although remained a secondary option in the offense) before Chark and Reynolds both returned to practice this week. Chark has missed the last six games with ankle trouble, while Reynolds has missed the last two games after his back locked up during practice. “He’s gotten a little bit better every day, but there again, it’s kind of wait and see with him,” Campbell said.

ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions (3-6) are off to New York in quest of their first three-game winning streak since 2017. They’ll have to go through the hard-charging Giants (7-2) in Week 11 to keep it rolling. The 24-year-old has six catches for 82 yards this season, including two for 41 yards last week against the Texans. mlive.comJosh Reynolds returns to Lions, Frank Ragnow misses second straight practice
ALLEN PARK -- One day after DJ Chark returned to practice, another receiver has made his return to the Detroit Lions as well. Josh Reynolds missed the last two games with a back injury, while Chark has missed six games in a row with an ankle injury. But the Lions won anyway, their second victory in a row, and now they’re getting healthier in a hurry heading into Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. Running back Jamaal Williams (illness) and offensive tackle Taylor Decker (veteran rest) also returned to practice after missing Wednesday’s session. The bad news is star center Frank Ragnow missed a second straight practice while dealing with more pain in his foot/toe.
mlive.comRomeo Okwara returns for Lions; Frank Ragnow, Taylor Decker out
The Detroit Lions edge rusher suited up for practice on Wednesday, the first time he’s been in uniform since blowing out his Achilles in Chicago last year. The club now has 21 days to get a look at Okwara before activating him to the 53-man roster or losing him for the season. But Okwara played just four games before rupturing his Achilles in an October game at Soldier Field. Receiver Josh Reynolds (back), receiver Trinity Benson, offensive tackle Taylor Decker, center Frank Ragnow, running back Jamaal Williams and pass rusher Josh Paschal did not practice for Detroit on Wednesday. His status for this week’s game against the Giants remains unclear.
mlive.comSnap counts, PFF grades: Detroit’s offensive line draws rave reviews in Week 10
It’s an interesting review of the team’s work in their second-straight win. He allowed only one pressure across 62 snaps in Chicago. While guard Evan Brown and right tackle Penei Sewell are at the bottom of the offensive line rankings for the week. Kerby Joseph, one game removed from being named NFC defensive player of the week, is the team’s lowest-graded defender. The linebacker-turned-fullback logged 13 snaps in his first game back.
mlive.comLions center Frank Ragnow in walking boot after win against Bears
The Detroit Lions knocked off the Chicago Bears 31-30 on Sunday to extend their longest winning streak in years to, well, two games. But after the game, All-Pro center Frank Ragnow was wearing a walking boot on his left leg as he made his way toward the team bus at Soldier Field. Ragnow has battled foot issues dating back to the game at Soldier Field last year. He felt a pop in his foot on the first play of that game, an injury that turned out to be a torn plantar plate. “Obviously last year was really, really, really frustrating,” Ragnow said during training camp.
mlive.comLions down 8 offensive players at practice; K Austin Seibert, OL Jonah Jackson return
ALLEN PARK -- Dan Campbell said the Detroit Lions would be short-handed on offense at Wednesday’s practice, and the second-year head coach wasn’t kidding. “Chark feels a little bit better today. Swift is a little bit better. I would say everybody is a little bit better. St. Brown is a little bit better.
mlive.comRecently cut Lions offensive lineman awarded to Cleveland Browns via waivers
ALLEN PARK -- Drew Forbes, an offensive guard the Detroit Lions claimed after losing starter Halapoulivaati Vaitai, is heading back to the Cleveland Browns via waivers. Forbes was claimed from the Browns after Vaitai landed on injured reserve with his back injury. He appeared in one game for the Lions, logging five snaps on special teams in the season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Detroit released Forbes and tight end Shane Zylstra ahead of last week’s game to make room for offensive tackle Dan Skipper and kicker Dominik Eberle. Awosika logged seven offensive snaps last week against the Seahawks after Evan Brown rolled his ankle.
mlive.comDJ Chark (ankle) downgraded for Lions practice; still no Amon-Ra St. Brown
But just days before a Week 4 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, they don’t have a single starting receiver with two healthy ankles. DJ Chark, the club’s star free-agent signing, was limited by an ankle injury on Wednesday before not suiting up at all on Thursday, while Amon-Ra St. Brown, one of the hottest wideouts in the league, hasn’t suited up at all because of an ankle injury of his own. The good news is fellow starter Josh Reyolds did return to practice on Thursday despite an ankle injury that kept him off the practice field earlier in the week. “I would say he’s felt great,” Fipp said. “I don’t know that he’s felt perfect, but he’s felt fine.
mlive.comLions practicing without more than half their starting offense, 10 players in all
“But you just kind of play the odds, and who do we think has the best chance of playing? It seems St. Brown might fall into that bucket as well. So much of this offense flows through St. Brown these days, especially in got-to-have-it situations on third and fourth down, as well as in the red zone. “(Swift and St. Brown) are further away than Josh Reynolds is,” Campbell said. The same goes for Jackson, who has missed two games since injuring his finger during a Week 2 practice.
mlive.comLions’ Frank Ragnow avoids long-term scare with injury to ‘same freaking toe’
ALLEN PARK -- Frank Ragnow has had a couple of frustrating weeks, dealing with a groin injury and another toe issue in his return for the Detroit Lions. Ragnow was back in the lineup for all 78 offensive snaps in the 28-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings last weekend. Lions head coach Dan Campbell previously said Ragnow had progressed well through the week in practice while managing the injuries. I was rolling there, feeling good, body was feeling good, but that’s part of the NFL,” Ragnow said from the team’s practice facility on Monday. (I) was able to get back sooner than initially thought, so that’s good.
mlive.comD’Andre Swift, Aidan Hutchinson, Frank Ragnow cleared to play for Lions
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Detroit Lions have arrived at U.S. Bank Stadium, where they’re looking to snap a 10-game road losing streak. Running back D’Andre Swift (ankle), edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson (thigh), center Frank Ragnow (toe) and tight end T.J. Hockenson (hip) have been cleared to play on Sunday in Minnesota. Ragnow will be making his return to the field after missing last week’s win with toe and groin injuries. The groin injury has since healed, while the toe continued to limit him at practice all week. With Jackson missing a second straight game because of his finger injury, Detroit could start Dan Skipper at left guard again.
mlive.comLions’ Aidan Hutchinson (thigh) will practice, trending toward playing in Week 3
ALLEN PARK -- Top Lions draft pick Aidan Hutchinson is expected to return to practice on Friday, putting him on course to play on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Hutchinson hadn’t practiced since injuring his thigh in the win against Washington, which clouded the rookie’s availability for the start of divisional play. John Cominsky, who leads Detroit in quarterback pressures, is not expected to play against Minnesota while recovering from hand surgery. Center Frank Ragnow is also trending up after practicing all week, although the toe injury remains painful enough that Detroit continues to take a wait-and-see approach with the Pro Bowler. Backups Logan Stenberg and Dan Skipper earned starts last week at guard, and seem in line for another one in Minnesota.

ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions have already ruled out starting center Frank Ragnow, and now they’ve downgraded Pro Bowl guard Jonah Jackson for their Week 2 game against the Washington Commanders. The Lions are already without guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai (back/injured reserve), so they could be missing all three starters for the interior offensive line. mlive.comFrank Ragnow officially ruled out by Lions; D’Andre Swift questionable
ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions have officially ruled out All-Pro center Frank Ragnow for their game on Sunday against the Washington Commanders. Running back D’Andre Swift, guard Jonah Jackson, cornerback Amani Oruwariye and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu are all questionable according to the team. But the injury bug struck again last week, when he injured his groin in practice. He did not practice again this week, although he did attend Friday’s session with heavy taping on the injured finger. Swift probably has the best chance to play of all the injured players, considering he at least practiced on Friday.
mlive.comD’Andre Swift returns to practice, while bad luck continues to crush Detroit Lions’ offensive line
ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions opened Week 1 with one of the best offensive lines in the league. Jackson hurt his right ring finger at practice on Wednesday, becoming the second offensive linemen to go down because of an injury he suffered in practice. At this point, Ragnow faces long odds of playing against Washington, although Detroit has not yet ruled him out. If Jackson also can’t go against Washington, Detroit would have to reach even deeper onto its bench, perhaps starting Kayode Awosika, who was signed off Philadelphia’s practice squad this week. D’Andre Swift racked up 144 yards on the ground against Philadelphia and accounted for 175 yards overall, both career highs.
mlive.comLions CB Amani Oruwariye leaves practice during warmups; D’Andre Swift, Jonah Jackson out too
ALLEN PARK -- Detroit Lions cornerback Amani Oruwariye left practice during warmups on Thursday, dealing yet another potential setback to a team that continues to be without star running back D’Andre Swift (ankle) and Pro Bowl offensive linemen Jonah Jackson (finger) and Frank Ragnow (foot/groin). Left tackle Taylor Decker (calf) returned to practice after sitting out Wednesday’s session with a calf issue, but practice otherwise painted another bleak picture heading into Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. The only other guard on the roster is Kayode Awosika, who was signed off the Eagles’ practice squad this week. Dan Skipper, an offensive tackle on Detroit’s practice squad, could be another emergency option. At tight end, Logan Thomas has blossomed into one of the league’s most productive pass-catchers at that position since leaving Detroit.
mlive.comDetroit Lions place offensive guard Tommy Kraemer on injured reserve
ALLEN PARK -- The hits to the Detroit Lions offensive line keep coming, with offensive guard Tommy Kraemer (back) landing on injured reserve. This all comes on the heels of starting guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai landing on injured reserve ahead of Week 1. Logan Stenberg started at right guard for the Lions in Week 1. It’s the real thing,” Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley said. It’s different with the first line, first defense across from you and guys like Fletcher Cox and all those guys.
mlive.comThe Lions practiced with just 1 healthy starting offensive lineman; D’Andre Swift out with ankle injury
That left right tackle Penei Sewell as the only starting offensive lineman who was full-go for the installation of the game plan for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. The injury bug has struck the offensive backfield too, where breakout star D’Andre Swift missed practice because of a sore ankle. He missed most of his rookie training camp with a nagging hip injury, then almost all of training camp last year while nursing a groin injury. Swift remained healthy throughout camp for the first time, then started a season opener for the first time. Defensive lineman Michael Brockers (knee) and offensive lineman Tommy Kraemer (back) also did not practice, while edge rusher Julian Okwara (hamstring) and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (hamstring) were limited.
mlive.comD’Andre Swift, Taylor Decker, Frank Ragnow not practicing for Detroit Lions
ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions were without three-fifths of their offensive line as preparations began for the Washington Commanders, and D’Andre Swift too. It was the best opener by a Lions running back since Barry Sanders. All-Pro center Frank Ragnow also was not present while dealing with a groin injury, while left tackle Taylor Decker walked out to practice in street clothes -- and a compression sleeve on his left leg -- a few minutes into practice. Ragnow is officially day-to-day with the groin injury he suffered in practice last week. “He won’t practice today.
mlive.comLions All-Pro Frank Ragnow officially active for opener, expected to start against Eagles
Considering he just missed 13 games because of a pop he felt in Chicago last year, Ragnow feared the worst. MRIs showed everything was intact, and Ragnow was feeling good enough by Friday to get in a limited day of practice. It remains unclear who will start at right guard. If Sewell gets the call, Matt Nelson is expected to make the start for Sewell at right tackle. Philadelphia’s inactives: Quarterback Ian Book, safety Reed Blankenship, running back Trey Sermon, guard Josh Sills, defensive end Tarron Jackson and tight end Grant Calcaterra.

mlive.comLions vs. Eagles: 3 burning questions ahead of season opener
The Detroit Lions open the season with a stiff task in the Philadelphia Eagles. These two teams met last year, with the Eagles beating the Lions 44-6 on Halloween in Detroit. Starting right guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai went on injured reserve to open the week. Logan Stenberg is an obvious candidate to fill the hole at right guard. Pandemic limiting what NFL players can do on their off weeks
The Packers (4-0) and Detroit Lions (1-3) don’t play this week and therefore are the first NFL teams to get a taste of how different off weeks will be amid a pandemic. “We have new protocols in place that are meant to keep everybody safe and healthy,” Lions coach Matt Patricia said. The NFL sent out a reminder Friday that the league’s agreement with the NFL Players Association in August means players who miss tests can be punished with a $50,000 fine. “You’ve got to look no further than Tennessee.”The protocols are impacting some players more than others. While the protocols have changed those plans, it has created opportunities for those players who already have their family members with them.
