Father of Oxford High student shot and killed in case of mistaken identity
OXFORD TOWNSHIP, MI -- A 56-year-old single father was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in the parking lot of his apartment complex in a case that police believe involves mistaken identity. Police aren’t sure why the alleged shooter thought Kendrick sent the message or what sort of confrontation happened, but an altercation took place. The shooter, who is licensed to carry a gun, eventually shot Kendrick multiple times, killing him. The apartment complex where the shooting took place is within walking distance of Oxford High School, where Kendrick’s son is a student. Four students were killed in that shooting, while six other students and a teacher were also shot.

Bayer’s bills would ban the sale and possession of a gun magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition. It would be a misdemeanor punishable up to 90 days in jail, or a fine of up to $500. “These are very, very specific pieces of legislation that can make a direct and immediate difference,” she says.

Deputies were called to the school around 12:55 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Multiple patrol units and multiple EMS units arrived on scene, along with SWAT and Aviation units, according to police. Police have not said if there are any fatalities in the shooting and are discouraging parents and other residents from coming to the high school at this time, as it is still an active crime scene. The alleged incident was caught on a nursery “nanny cam,” according to a news release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. VanLuven then allegedly picked up an Elmo doll from the nursery floor and appeared to pleasure himself with it. VanLuven told deputies that he had only moved the doll to inspect an outlet. When told he was caught on camera, he allegedly made incriminating statements and apologized.

Oxford Township resident dies in single-vehicle crash
BRANDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A 52-year-old Oxford Township man died in a crash around 7 a.m. Monday on Eastbound Seymour Lake Road near the intersection of Perry Lake Road. According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the victim was driving a 1992 Ford Mustang eastbound on Seymour Lake Road when he attempted to pass at least two vehicles on wet pavement and lost control. The victim was ejected from the vehicle, which landed partially on top of him. Police say the driver died at the scene of the crash. Officials say the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
