Nurse fired after sharing video from inside DMC Sinai Grace Hospital still helping fight COVID pandemic
DETROIT – It was almost exactly a year ago when a wave of COVID patients was starting to overwhelm hospitals. A Metro Detroit nurse took a video inside Sinai Grace Hospital and spoke about the need for more supplies. The hospital said that the cellphone video violated hospital policy and Barkai was fired. Detroit and Sinai Grace got hit by a wave of COVID-19 patients to the point the hospital was running out of space for those who were dying. Barkai is still involved in litigation with the company that owns Sinai Grace.
Man says he took in Highland woman accused of putting baby in trash can
DETROIT – A man said he tried to help a Highland woman, who is accused of dumping her baby in a trash can. The man, who was not being identified, said he found the woman, 23-year-old Jennifer Woodard, in a crisis, walking near Brightmoor. “She was deciding to give it up for adoption,” the man claimed. The man claimed someone was with her at that time. Prosecutor’s Office accused Woodard of putting her baby in a trash can.
Police find parents of newborn left at Sinai-Grace Hospital
DETROIT – The mother and father of a newborn baby that was dropped off at DMC Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit have been found. Police said a man pulled up to the hospital on Thursday, asked someone to hold the baby while he parked his vehicle and then drove away and did not return. Authorities said they were worried about the mother and located the parents thanks to a tip from the public. Police said the woman -- found at a home near the intersection of Lahser Road and Kessler Steet -- is OK.Police are still investigating to see the parents will face charges. It is not against the law to drop a newborn off at a safe place -- like a hospital or a fire station -- but the baby is supposed to given to an employee.

DETROIT – Police are concerned for the welfare of the mother of a newborn baby that was dropped off at DMC Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit. He said the baby was just hours old when it was left at the hospital. Serda described the man as a Black man in his late 40s or early 50s. “We’re not looking for the mother for any kind of charges or anything, we’re really more concerned about her safety," Serda said.
Detroit Sinai Grace Hospital staff surprised with care packages
DETROIT – We’ve been seeing all sorts of actions being taken in order to show gratitude toward out healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus, and it’s been no different for staff at DMC Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit. A truck dropped off care packages for Dr. Daniel Taylor and his entire staff at Sinai Grace. The truck came from Port Huron and it was put together by his niece, Jennifer Canup. Watch the story above.
