Gov. Whitmer proposes $67 billion Michigan budget that prioritizes pandemic recovery
Gretchen Whitmer submitted her third budget for the state of Michigan Thursday. Whitmer looks to draw down on the Michigan General Fund by $11.5 billion and the School Aid Fund by $14.7 billion. “This is a restrained budget,” Whitmer said. Whitmer wants $360 million to keep in place the $2 an hour wage increase for direct care workers and wants another $38 million to help nursing homes. $300 million has been planned for bridge repair and she wants to help Michigan cities with a $175 million budget stabilization for COVID response.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) – Michigan is accepting applications for tuition-free assistance for adults 25 and older to earn an associate’s degree or postsecondary certificate at their local community college or a private training school. “To succeed as a state, Michigan must be a state of successful people,” Gov. Free tuition is being offered at a resident‘s in-district community college where they can earn an associate degree or Pell-eligible skill certificate if they’re 25 years old and older. Washtenaw Community College announces fall semester plans -- more virtual classes, tuition freeze
ANN ARBOR, Mich. Washtenaw Community College has announced that its fall plans will include online classes, hybrid courses, a tuition freeze and changes centered around preventing the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). SafetyStudents, faculty and employees returning to campus will be required to complete an online safety training module. Bellanca stated that the community college has worked with two organizations in order to reopen safety. An updated fall schedule is available on the Washtenaw Community College website. Michigan announces plan to offer free college to essential workers
Gretchen Whitmer has announced a new program to offer tuition-free pathways to college for essential workers. The "Futures for Frontliners” program aims to provide a tuition-free pathway to college or a technical certificate to essential workers who don’t have a college degree.
