Northern Michigan man arrested for assault, accused of chasing people with axe
CHEBOYGAN COUNTY, Mich. – An Afton man was arrested for assault after he was accused of chasing people with an axe. Police said Leese had injuries to his face and hands and appeared to be intoxicated. Witnesses reported that Leese had gotten into an argument with another man and assaulted a woman. The victims fled the home with children in the vehicle, police said. AdLeese was arraigned Monday on five counts assault with a dangerous weapon, one count second-degree child abuse, one count domestic violence, one count assault and battery, and one count malicious destruction of personal property less than $200.
8-year-old boy shot after weapon discharged inside Canton Township home
Editor’s note: The shooting did not take place at a home in the Glen Ridge Manufactured Community as previously reported. It took place at a home in a community next door. CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police say an 8-year-old boy was shot Tuesday afternoon after a weapon was discharged inside a Canton Township home on Old Michigan Avenue. Police and fire units arrived at the home after a call was made to 911 dispatch. UPDATE: As of Wednesday morning, Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit learned the child has died.
3 men in custody after multi-vehicle crash in Romulus
ROMULUS, Mich. – Three men are in custody after a multi-vehicle crash in Romulus. Michigan State Police were called to the area of I-275 and Eureka Road on the report of a three-vehicle hit-and-run crash. Police said a black Chrysler 300 crashed in the middle of Eureka Road, over I-275. A trooper at the scene approached the car, opened the rear passenger door and found a man with a loaded .233 pistol. A Romulus officer removed the front-seat passenger and located a loaded 9mm pistol in his waistband.
Police: Man accidentally shoots himself at doctor’s office in Independence Township, gun thrown in lake
INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 65-year-old man accidentally shot himself during a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday, police say. The Pontiac resident reportedly found a gun outside of his residence and put it in his pocket before his appointment with the McLaren Medical Group in Independence Township. Police say the man reached into his pocket while in the exam room and the gun discharged, grazing his backside and resulting in a minor injury. Police say during an interview the man reported giving the gun to his brother, who said the gun was thrown in a nearby lake. A dive team with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is expected to search the lake for the handgun.
Man forced at gunpoint to give up his vehicle in Roseville, police say
ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A man, 30, was forced at gunpoint to give up his vehicle early Wednesday morning in Roseville. The victim agreed to pick up an acquaintance from the 35000 block of Jefferson Avenue and transport him to the block of Melvin and Tranquil streets in Roseville, officials said. After reaching the destination, the 34-year-old man pointed a handgun at the victim and forced him to exit the car, police said. Police say a one-car crash on eastbound I-94 near 13 Mile Road was reported several minutes after the victim’s vehicle was stolen. Michigan State Police utilized a K-9 unit but were not able to find the suspect, officials said.
