First responders awarded for heroic rescue of 3-year-old in Grosse Ile
A group of police officers and firefighters are now being called heroes for saving the life of a three-year-old girl who nearly drowned in a friendโs pool. This week those nine first responders were awarded during a township board meeting.

Kellye Canty and her nine-month-old baby Kanaan had just dropped her mother off for a doctorโs appointment at Harper Hospital. Canty and her baby remained in the car in the parking garage with the car running.

Oakland County deputies rush baby to hospital while firefighters perform CPR
PONTIAC, Mich. โ Oakland County Sheriffโs deputies rushed a choking 10-month-old child to a hospital while firefighters from the Waterford Regional Fire Department performed CPR on the child. Deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Parkdale Avenue in Pontiac on Sept. 28 on the report of a 10-month-old child who was conscious and not breathing. Deputies arrived and so did crews from the Waterford Regional Fire Department and CPR was started on the child. Two firefighters put the child in the back seat of a patrol car and continued to perform CPR while a deputy drove them to the hospital. Other deputies worked to clear a path for the patrol car to get to the hospital as safely and as quick as possible.
Family member saves 5-year-old boy from drowning at Pontiac hotel
PONTIAC, Mich. A family member helped save a young boy from drowning while at a hotel in Pontiac on Friday night. Police say the 5-year-old boy from Detroit was playing with other children at a Marriott Hotel when a family member noticed he had gone under water. The child was submerged in about four feet of water, officials said. A family member pulled the boy from the water and administered CPR right away, police said. The boy was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.
