Barricaded gunman surrenders to police in northwest Detroit
DETROIT โ A barricaded gunman situation ended in northwest Detroit Thursday after the suspect surrendered. Detroit police surrounded a home on Coyle Street near West Chicago and Greenfield Road. Police said a 24-year-old man allegedly fired a shot at a 19-year-old woman and her sister after an argument over childcare money. Police said the suspect then barricaded himself. The man eventually surrendered after police played a recording of his mother pleading for him to come out.
2 Detroit police officers hospitalized after hit-and-run crash
DETROIT Two police officers were taken to a hospital after a hit-and-run crash on Detroits west side. Police were driving on West Chicago when a driver blew a stop sign and hit their car. The cruiser spun, hit a tree, caught fire and now is totaled. The officers are expected to be OK. The driver fled the scene in a white or tan Nissan Pathfinder.
Police car catches fire after crash in Detroit
DETROIT Two police officers were injured in a car crash on Friday night in Detroit. According to police at around 9:20 p.m. a white Nissan Pathfinder allegedly disregarded a stop sign at West Chicago and Braile Street, striking a scout car traveling east on West Chicago. Officials say the scout car lost control, hit a tree and caught fire. The unknown driver of the Nissan continued north on Braile Street, officials said. Police search for killer after more than a dozen shots fired at Detroit gas station
DETROIT Police are looking for a killer on Detroits west side after more than a dozen shots were fired at a gas station. Witnesses said at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday Bernard Holmes, 60, was involved in an argument with another man at the Marathon gas station at West Chicago and Meyers Road in Detroit. One witness said they saw the men chasing each other around the gas pumps while holding the gas nozzles. Facial recognition technology helps Detroit police identify, arrest shooting suspect
DETROIT With help from facial recognition technology Detroit police arrested a 23-year-old man wanted in connection with a shooting that happened on the citys west side. Police said the shooting happened on May 25 at 11:30 p.m. at a gas station in the 13600 block of West Chicago. A group of people were outside the gas station when an argument occurred between several women, according to officials. Officers used video footage from Project Green Light Detroit and facial recognition software to identify and locate the suspect. Burns was located and arrested on May 27 in the 15400 block of Steel.

(CNN) - With plumes of smoke billowing into the sky, the world's largest steam locomotive left Wisconsin on Friday morning, bound for an afternoon stop in West Chicago. Back on the rails for the first time in six decades, the only operational Big Boy steam engine in the world is on a journey across the Midwest to mark the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869. The steam engine stopped Tuesday in Altoona, Wisconsin, about 90 miles east of Minneapolis. The 600-ton locomotive left Butler, Wisconsin, at 8 a.m. Friday en route to Chicago, Trains magazine says.
