I-75 lane and ramp closures begin Monday, March 8, in Oakland County

Lane and ramp closures will begin at 7 a.m. Monday, March 8, on I-75 for punch list items and sound wall construction in the city of Troy, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). MDOT says the following restrictions will be in place:Only the left lane will be open on northbound I-75 at Big Beaver Road as crews work on repairing a drainage connection. Northbound ramp traffic will be detoured to the Crooks Road/ Corporate Drive interchange while southbound ramp traffic will be directed to Rochester Road . Northbound I-75 will have two lanes open near Wattles Road as crews build a new sound wall. The lane closures are expected to remain in place until mid-April.

Suspected barricaded gunman who was shot by police dies at Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak

Police said deputies and the Royal Oak Fire Department administered aid to the man and he was rushed to the Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Barricaded situation in Royal Oak ends, 34-year-old suspected gunman shot by police

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A barricaded gunman situation in Royal Oak ended Saturday night when the suspected gunman was shot by police and rushed to a hospital. Police added he was heavily armed, wearing body armor and barricaded himself inside the Royal Oak residence. Authorities said communication was reestablished with the suspected gunman after the drone was disabled. Police said deputies and the Royal Oak Fire Department administered aid to the man and he was rushed to the Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Sterling Heights police search for missing 15-year-old last seen Monday

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Sterling Heights police are searching for 15-year-old Scarlet McCoy who was last seen at an apartment complex on Crooks Road between 13 Mile and 14 Mile roads. Police said Scarlet was last seen between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Monday, and her cellphone is shut off. She is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall, 105 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Police seek 2 in connection to armed robbery at Troy Chipotle restaurant

TROY, Mich. – Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened Monday night at a Chipotle restaurant in Troy. Police described one suspect as between 6 feet to 6 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds. He was wearing a blacked hooded sweatshirt, a red ski mask, black gloves, black pants and was armed with a handgun. Police described the other suspect as between 6 feet, 1 inch to 6 feet, 2 inches and weighing about 170 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black/white mask or bandana, black gloves, black pants and carrying a black Wayne State University drawstring backpack.

Shakespeare Royal Oak offers virtual summer camp after canceling season due to COVID-19

ROYAL OAK, Mich. For nearly 20 years at the corner of 13 Mile and Crooks roads in Royal Oak, a band of merry players has brought the works of William Shakespeare to life with their performances. This year, the Shakespeare in the Park performances will be canceled for the first time ever. The coronavirus (COVID-19) forced the company to cancel its season for the first time, but in many ways, the show must go on. The company is offering a virtual summer camp for children and adults as it teaches its craft with the Virtual Bard series of online workshops. There are four different workshop series for different age groups.

Catalytic converters stolen from cars at four different locations in Royal Oak, officials say

Catalytic converters were stolen from cars at four different locations last week in Royal Oak, officials said. In all four instances, police received calls from the owners of the vehicles that the catalytic converters had been stolen. Another incident occurred between 6:30 p.m. Nov. 6 and 8:15 a.m. Nov. 7 in the 4000 block of Crooks Road, according to authorities. The third person reported a theft between 9 p.m. Nov. 8 and noon Nov. 9 in the 5100 block of Crooks Road, officials said. The final theft happened between 9 p.m. Nov. 8 and noon Nov. 9 in the 700 block of South Pleasant Street, police said.

The pesky I-75 construction is continuing with overnight closures tonight and Tuesday night between Big Beaver Road and Corporate Drive/Crooks Road.
