WAYNE COUNTY, MI – Shane Lamar Evans, charged in connection with the slaying of Ann Arbor bartender and musician Egypt Covington, was found competent to stand trial, Feb. 28, after months of psychiatric reviews by doctors at the state-run Center for Forensic Psychiatry, court records show. Evans, 33, is one of three men charged with the murder of Covington who investigators claim was killed by the trio during a botched robbery where they targeted Covington’s home by mistake. ROMULUS, MI – Three men accused of killing Egypt Covington during a botched robbery are heading to trial for murder. Moore, 34, of Toledo was bound over for trial on one count each first-degree murder, felony murder, first-degree home invasion and four counts of felony firearm. Groom, 28, of Toledo was bound over on one count each on one count each of felony murder and first-degree home invasion as well as an added count of first-degree murder and three counts of felony firearms. Evans, 31, of Sumpter Township, was bound over as charged on one count each of felony murder and first-degree home invasion. All three men are being held in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
