The supply chain shortage has crushed automotive production and sales, but that hasn’t stopped automakers from introducing new and redesigned models.

A parts shortage that has thousands of Ford’s most-profitable vehicles sitting on lots waiting to be fully assembled has forced the automaker to slash its third-quarter earnings forecast.

DETROIT - Michiganders dream of owning a Ford Mustang more than any other car, according to Twitter data. The Mustang is the second most popular car, with residents of 12 other states also frequently tweeting about the muscle car. The Tesla Model S was the top dream car in the country, with residents of 20 states posting about it being their dream ride. Other dream cars that won over states were the Range Rover (six states), Jeep Wrangler (four states), Chevrolet Corvette (four states) and Chevrolet Camaro (four states). DETROIT - The most powerful street-legal Ford Mustang ever built will go on sale this fall. It also has a seven-speed automatic transmission that Ford promises will shift smoothly on commutes and quickly on the track. The Shelby GT500 can go from zero to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) in around 3.5 seconds, although Ford didnt release a precise number. Performance powertrain engineering manager Patrick Morgan says the new version is aimed at Mustang enthusiasts who also want track performance. He said the car can go from zero to 100 mph (161 kilometers per hour) and back to zero again in 10.6 seconds.

(CNN) - Ford's new supercharged high-performance Mustang, the Shelby GT500, is the most powerful car Ford has ever produced and it will have a price to match. The 760 horsepower car will start at about $74,000, including $1,100 in destination charges and a $2,600 federal "gas guzzler" tax. It's far more than the price of an entry-level Ford Mustang which, with its 310-horsepower four-cylinder engine, costs about $26,000. Shelby American, a manufacturer of high-performance cars, originally made Shelby Mustangs by customizing Mustangs purchased from Ford. And Ford now makes its own Shelby Mustangs such as the GT500 and the 562 horsepower Shelby GT350.
