Police are searching for a man accused of robbing a gas station and liquor store in Monroe.

Man with gun attempts kidnapping infant, barricades himself

The suspect removed an infant from the residence before trying to drag the child's mother from the house, he said. The family, which included several children, were able to exit the house to meet with officers, Marks said. The suspect remained in the residence by himself with the firearm, and refused to exit, he said. Monroe Police plus officers from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and Michigan State Police secured the residence and the immediate area. After substantial effort, the suspect agreed to exit the residence and was taken into custody without further incident.

Police find human skeletal remains in Monroe County drainage ditch

LASALLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. Police discovered human skeletal remains over the weekend in a Monroe County drainage ditch, officials said. The discovery was made around 12:50 p.m. Sunday in an open field on the south side of West Stein Road, west of Strasburg Road, according to the Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone. Deputies were called to the field when a worker performing maintenance found unknown human skeletal remains, according to authorities. The remains were taken from the drainage ditch and turned over to the Wayne County Medical Examiners Office in Detroit for an autopsy and identification. Anyone with information about the discovery is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriffs Office at 734-240-7530.

One person injured in early morning crash on N. Custer

The crash happened about 2:50 a.m. today; Monroe Police says the driver has "non-lifethreatening injuries." The Monroe Police Department says one person has "non-life threatening injuries" in the aftermath of a fiery crash about 2:50 a.m. today on N. Custer Rd. During the accident, the vehicle left the roadway, struck multiple trees and two utility poles. The driver has been taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Police say "alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash."

Suicidal man flees police, crashes at M-50 and Telegraph

After being cleared medically, the suspect was lodged in the Monroe County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and reckless driving. A man was jailed Saturday night after fleeing from police that created a high-speed chase through Monroe neighborhoods and ended when the suspect crashed at M-50 and Telegraph Rd. After being cleared medically, the suspect, 26, was lodged in the Monroe County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and reckless driving. Police said at one point the man started the vehicle and left the scene at a high rate of speed. The chase lasted for several minutes and ended when the suspect crashed the vehicle into an electrical pole on the southwest corner of M-50 and S. Telegraph.

Pistol stolen in strong-arm robbery

Monroe Police are looking for several male suspects in connection with a strong-armed robbery and assault on a man who was carrying a Smith & Wesson .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol while taking out the trash Monday night. The victim described the first assailant as a black male about 6-foot-3, with a thin build and deep voice and wearing black Nike AF1 shoes. The second was a black male about 5-foot-9, heavy set, and wore a dark hoodie, grey pants and red Air Jordan shoes. Man bilked out of $975A Bedford Township man is considering seeking charges of larceny by conversion against another man of whom he paid $975 up front to order and install a new garage door for him. According to the Monroe County Sheriffs Office, the man paid the suspect, 25, from Toledo on May 23 to order the equipment.
