Hoods can fly open on 323K Nissan vehicles, leading to latest recall
WASHINGTON -- Excess amounts of dirt and dust are being blamed for a recall that impacts an estimated 323,000 Nissan Pathfinders, the Associated Press reports. The recall, announced Tuesday, involves 2013 through 2016 model years of the Pathfinder as the hoods on those vehicles can unexpectedly open while the car is in motion. The issues is caused by buildups of dust and dirt that can accumulate on the secondary hood latch. When that happens, the latch may not work properly and can malfunction, leading to the possibility of the hood opening up without warning if the main latch isn’t properly secured. The company will begin notifying impacted customers via letter starting on July 18 and again once they have developed a proper fix for the problem.

DETROIT -- Nissan says it is recalling more than 854,000 cars in the U.S. and Canada over an issue involving the brake lights not activating on certain Sentra models. The automaker says it is aware of the issue where the brake lights may not light up when the driver pushes down on the brake pedal. That contamination can cause oxidation which can then cause the stop lamp switch near the brake pedal to malfunction, according to the AP. Owners should expect to receive an interim notice from Nissan in April asking them to schedule a service appointment if they experience the problem. Once more parts are available in the fall to correct the issue, Nissan will send a second letter telling all owners to make a service appointment regardless of if they’ve actually experienced the issue.
