Owners will get a interim repair letter in April that will tell them to schedule a service appointment if they experience the problem.

However, after months of tortuous negotiations, the U.K. and EU struck a post-Brexit trade deal at the end of 2020 that means there won't be any tariffs or quotas. Though committing to the Sunderland plant, Nissan said one of its two lines there will pause production on Friday as shipping routes and ports come under pressure because of the coronavirus crisis.

Toyota was forced to slow production of the full-size Tundra pickup at a factory in San Antonio, Texas. "This will minimize the impact of the current semiconductor shortage while ensuring we maintain production at our other North American plants,” Fiat Chrysler said in a statement. The firm lists major players in the automotive chip market as STMicroelectronics, Infineon Technologies, NXP Semiconductor, Texas Instruments and Toshiba.

Nissan pulls out of Trump emissions fight with California

DETROIT – Nissan said Friday that it will no longer support the Trump administration in its legal fight to end California's ability to set its own auto-pollution and gas-mileage standards. General Motors ended its support for the Trump administration's battle with California on emissions standards last week. President Donald Trump rolled back Obama-era fuel efficiency and emissions standards, and it’s likely that the Biden administration will end the rollbacks. Trump also ended California’s unique ability to set its own pollution and efficiency standards, which is being challenged in court. Many automakers, including Nissan and GM, still are supporting Trump in defending the rollback of national fuel efficiency standards.

Rights experts: Japan's handling of Carlos Ghosn was wrong

GENEVA – A panel of human rights experts working with the United Nations said Monday that former Renault-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn was wrongly detained in Japan and has urged “compensation” for him from the Japanese government. The opinions of the working group are not binding on countries but aim to hold them up to their own human rights commitments. Among its past rulings involved the case of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who was likewise deemed to have had his human rights violated. Japan’s system has been repeatedly criticized by human rights advocates. Its members declined to speak to reporters about the opinion, the U.N. human rights office said.

DETROIT – Police are looking for a man wanted in connection with an Oct. 27 carjacking on Detroit’s west side. Police said a black Nissan drove up to a pump and the driver entered the store. While the passenger, an 18-year-old woman, was sitting in the Nissan, an armed man approached the car and orderd the woman to get out at gunpoint. 2 arrested in Somerset Mall carjacking

TROY, Mich. – Two people are in police custody after allegedly hijacking a vehicle outside of Somerset Mall on Thursday morning. Police say at about 7:30 a.m. two males were approached by four people in a silver Nissan when exiting the mall. Two suspects took the victims’ 2016 black Dodge Charger and fled the scene while the other two suspects fled the scene in the Nissan. A black 2016 Dodge Charger was hijacked from two people at Somerset Mall on the morning of July 23, 2020. The two suspects from Tennessee are being housed at the Jackson County Jail and are expected to be arraigned soon.

Police car catches fire after crash in Detroit

DETROIT Two police officers were injured in a car crash on Friday night in Detroit. According to police at around 9:20 p.m. a white Nissan Pathfinder allegedly disregarded a stop sign at West Chicago and Braile Street, striking a scout car traveling east on West Chicago. Officials say the scout car lost control, hit a tree and caught fire. The unknown driver of the Nissan continued north on Braile Street, officials said. Bank of England reminds banks of 'no deal' Brexit risk

Discussions over a trade deal have made little headway, with both sides arguing that the other is creating unnecessary obstacles. And that's raised concerns that the British economy faces the prospect of a no deal scenario at a time of acute stress related to the coronavirus pandemic. Suspect in Marysville bank robbery arraigned, police still looking for accomplice

MARYSVILLE, Mich. – Steven Welsh, 54, was arraigned Friday in connection to a Marysville bank robbery that happened Nov. 13. Welsh’s bond was set at $250,000 cash surety and a probable cause conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Nov. 26. Investigators are still looking for an accomplice who was driving what has been described as a red or maroon large SUV, possibly a Dodge Nitro or Nissan when the robbery took place. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 810-364-6300.

Global autos alliance rocked by boardroom 'coup'

The French automaker announced Friday that Thierry Bollor, who had led the company since Ghosn stepped aside in November 2018, would leave his post with immediate effect. Renault said in a statement that Clotilde Delbos would serve as CEO until a permanent replacement for Bollor is found. On Thursday, as rumors of his ouster swirled, he denounced the move against him as a "coup" in an interview with French newspaper Les Echos. The departures of Bollor and Saikawa cap a tumultuous year for the alliance, which also includes Mitsubishi Motors. Like their rivals, Renault and Nissan are facing enormous pressure from a slowing global car market and the need to find resources to develop cleaner cars.

Nissan names new CEO after a chaotic year

The Japanese carmaker on Tuesday named Makoto Uchida as CEO, tapping an executive who has experience in the key market of China. The resignation dealt yet another blow to Nissan, which has been struggling to recover from the ousting of former chairman Carlos Ghosn last November. Nissan reported in July that profits plunged 99% for the first quarter of its fiscal year.

Nissan recalls 1.23 million vehicles, affecting multiple models

Nissan has announced the recall of 1.23 million vehicles due to an issue with backup cameras. FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Nissan is recalling 1.23 million SUVs and sedans in the United States and Canada in order to fix a problem with backup cameras in the vehicles. The recall covers the 2018 and 2019 models of some of the company's most popular vehicles, such as the Nissan Rogue SUV and the Altima sedan. Other vehicles affected include the Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Sentra, Titan, Versa Note and Versa Sedan, as well as several Infiniti models. Nissan will notify owners of affected SUVs and sedans in phases, starting on October 21.

Nissan CEO resigns after admitting he was overpaid

Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa has resigned. It named Chief Operating Officer Yasuhiro Yamauchi as acting CEO while Nissan searches for a successor. Saikawa's resignation came just days after he admitted to reporters in Japan that he and other top Nissan executives were overpaid as part of a stock-related payment plan. The company's stock appreciation rights program, or SAR, was a subject of the probe, according to Nissan chairman Yasushi Kimura. A lackluster earnings reports in May -- when Saikawa said Nissan had hit "rock bottom" -- prompted questions about whether the 65-year-old executive could survive.

Nissan will cut 12,500 jobs
