Convicted murderer Bob Bashara has died after being sentenced to life in prison in 2015
LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. – Convicted murderer Bob Bashara has died. Bashara was sentenced to life in prison in January 2015 after he was convicted of plotting to have his wife killed in 2012. Timeline: Jane Bashara murder caseOfficials confirmed that Bashara died Monday at the Woodland Center Correctional Facility. It would be another four years until he finally laid out the case against Bob Bashara in April 2016. He admitted to breaking Jane Bashara's neck and said Bob Bashara was present during the murder.
Bloomfield Hills sergeant dies from heart attack after cutting tree, department says
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Bloomfield Hills police said that Sergeant Steven Splan suffered a fatal heart attack hours after cutting and removing a large tree that had fallen. The tree had fallen onto Bloomfield Hills Parkway east of Woodward Avenue at approximately 12:30 pm. He returned to the station and was found unresponsive at 11 p.m.Splan had served with the Bloomfield Hills Police Department for 15 years. He is survived by his wife and four children.
Michigan State Police trooper dies after being struck by suspected drunk driver
LANSING, Mich. A trooper who was struck by a drunk driver while on duty on July 10 has died, according to police. Caleb Starr joined the Michigan State Police in Sept. 2018, as a member of the 135th Trooper Recruit School. He is survived by his wife, Rachael, who is a civilian member of the MSP, and their two young daughters. Starr was westbound on Grand River Avenue when a vehicle traveling east, driven by a 28-year-old woman from Utah crossed the center line. Charges are pending against the driver from Utah, who is believed to still be hospitalized, according to police.
Beloved bar owner Honest John Thompson has died at 66
DETROIT The bar he owned is a Detroit institution. Honest John Thompson, the former owner of Honest Johns in Detroit has died at the age of 66 from congestive heart failure. Thompson leaves behind a legacy thats a whole lot bigger than just a bar. He was the most complicated simple man in the world, relative Mike Kiewicz said. He alienated a lot of people, because, you know, he was -- he was a complicated man and that was the complicated part of him, Mike Kiewicz said.
20-year veteran of Oakland County Sheriffs Office lost his battle with cancer
OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. The Oakland County Sheriffs Office has announced the death of Deputy Gary Garza. He was a 20-year veteran of the Sheriffs Office and had held positions in corrections, courts, road patrol and was a school resource officer for Clarkston Community Schools for the past five years. Deputy Garza was the epitome of who a police officer should be, said Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard. "He lived his life with dignity and high standards, which was reflected in his loyalty to the Sheriffs Office. The men and women of the Sheriffs Office send their deepest condolences to Deputy Garzas family.

This week was a sad one for Christians around the world, as advocate, author and apologist Ravi Zacharias died Tuesday of sarcoma. Here are notable facts about the life of Zacharias:He was an atheist until a suicide attempt changed his life. He attempted suicide by swallowing poison, but he survived, and his life completely changed while at an Indian hospital, according to the Ravi Zacharias International Ministries website. At age 19, Zacharias won a preaching contest, and his life in ministry was off to a flying start. Celebrities, politicians and church leaders around the world paid tribute to Zacharias this week on Twitter.
