A cultural cornerstone of this community is the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn. This museum is the countryโs first and only museum dedicated to the Arab American experience. Eastern Michigan University to offer no-cost mobile flu vaccination clinics through Dec. 8
ANN ARBOR โ The Eastern Michigan University Center for Health Disparities Innovations and Studies will be offering mobile flu vaccination clinics Nov. 14-Dec. 8 in partnership with the statewide Asian Community Toward Innovative Visionary Environment Coalition. โFlu vaccinations are more important than ever before this year to minimize the transmission of influenza during the COVID-19 pandemic,โ Tsu-Yin Wu, CHDIS director, said in a statement. โWe are increasing flu vaccine awareness, enhancing access to vaccinations, and improving connections between health care providers and underserved Asian and Arab American communities.โโ Like what youโre reading? Clinics will be held in areas with limited acccess to flu vaccination and flu education resources for Arab and Asian Americans. Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the clinics are free to the community.

Four Arab American organizations are partnering for the inaugural Arab Film Fest Collab (AFFC) later this year. The Arab American National Museum (AANM), Arab Film and Media Institute (AFMI), ArteEast and Mizna collectively present the Arab Film Fest Collab December 3โ13, 2020. Other featured films include In Vitro (2019) by Palestinian artist and filmmaker Larissa Sansour. Languages represented in the films include Arabic, French, Somali and English, and every non-English offering is subtitled in English. Dearborn-based foundation raises $180K in ongoing effort to support Lebanon relief
DEARBORN, Mich. โ A national Arab American foundation, based in Dearborn, has raised more than $180,000 to help support the ongoing relief efforts in Lebanon following the deadly explosion in August. Since the explosion, the continued fundraising efforts benefitting the Lebanon Relief Project through CAAPโs Disaster Relief Fund have resulted in over $180,000 raised so far. Funds have been used to help the Lebanon Relief Project airlift over $12.7 million in high value medications and supplies to Beirut on August 24, and most recently, over $6 million on September 29. 100% of all donations raised through CAAPโs continued fundraising efforts will go towards airlifting essential supplies and equipment and supporting relief efforts in Lebanon. DETROIT โ For years Zaman International founder and CEO, Najah Bazzy, has dedicated herself to helping women, children and refugees. The non-governmental organization has helped more than 250,000 women and children by providing basic necessities, education and job training, according to CNN. Zaman International operates out of the Hope For Humanity Center, a 40,500-square-foot facility in Inkster. Needy mothers and their children can shop at the Inkster based facility, which has become a one stop shop for basic essentials, for free. She was selected as one of 30 smiles initiative to be placed on Layโs potato chip bags.
Dearborn-based foundation launches campaign to support relief efforts in Lebanon
DEARBORN, Mich. A national Arab American foundation, based in Dearborn, is launching its second fundraising campaign to help support the ongoing relief efforts in Lebanon following the deadly explosion earlier this month. Even before the explosion, Lebanon was dealing with increasing poverty, economic collapse and corruption, while in the midst of a pandemic. The Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP) launched its first relief campaign on Aug. 5, granting $75,155 to the Lebanese Red Cross, to support their on-the-ground efforts. The second campaign will support the work of several nonprofits including AFYA Foundation, ANERA and Direct Relief under the coordinated efforts of the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL), to urgently airlift medical and pharmaceutical supplies and equipment to Beirut.
