2 killed in crash after car crosses centerline of 23 Mile Road
Police are investigating a crash that killed two people and injured another in Macomb County. According to authorities, the collision happened just before 9 p.m. Wednesday when the driver of a 2005 Cadillac CTS-V lost control on the westbound lanes of 23 Mile Road and drove into the eastbound lanes, striking a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. Police investigating a fatal crash on Nov. 26, 2020. (WDIV)Police said the driver of the Cadillac, 21-year-old David Vasilevski, and its only passenger, 22-year-old Ashley Machuta, were declared dead at the scene. The only occupant of the Dodge was a 19-year-old man from Macomb Township, who was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
Harper Woods man arraigned in connection with fatal hit-and-run on I-94
ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Martin Dwayne Smith, a 51-year-old man from Harper Woods, was arraigned Friday afternoon in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on I-94 Monday. Zachery Morisette, a 26-year-old Macomb County Department of Roads employee, was struck and killed while replacing a manhole cover on I-94 near Nine Mile Road in Macomb County. Smith was charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault, resulting in death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident, resulting in serious impairment or death. Chinese National Who Worked at Monsanto Indicted on Economic Espionage Charges
Haitao Xiang, 42, formerly of Chesterfield, Missouri, was indicted today by a federal grand jury on one count of conspiracy to commit economic espionage, three counts of economic espionage, one count of conspiracy to commit theft of trade secrets and three counts of theft of trade secrets. According to the indictment, Xiang was employed by Monsanto and its subsidiary, The Climate Corporation, from 2008 to 2017, where he worked as an imaging scientist. Monsanto and The Climate Corporation developed a digital, on-line farming software platform that was used by farmers to collect, store, and visualize critical agricultural field data and increase and improve agricultural productivity for farmers. Monsanto and The Climate Corporation considered the Nutrient Optimizer a valuable trade secret and their intellectual property. Each theft of trade secrets charges carries up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.justice.gov
