2022 Frankenmuth Bavarian Fest starts June 9 and continues through the weekend

FRANKENMUTH, MI — The Frankenmuth Bavarian Festival is back. Events and attractions included in the festival are the Bavarian Festival Princess Coronation Dinner, live music, vendors, street activities, fireworks, food trucks and parades. Swim-up bars could be allowed in Michigan this summer

You’re swimming in sparking blue water at your local public pool, and you have a cool, refreshing cocktail in hand. State lawmakers have proposed legislation that would change the state’s law to allow swim-up bars at public pools, including hotels and other tourist attractions. House Bills 5983 and 5984 would allow public swimming pools in Michigan to serve food and beverages to swimmers under certain safety guidelines. State Rep. Rodney Wakeman, R-Frankenmuth, who co-sponsored the bills, said permitting swim-up bars would help boost Michigan’s tourism industry. Under current state law, pool operators are prohibited from serving food and beverages in a public swimming pool.

Frankenmuth muscles up, mercies Clio in district softball showdown

The Frankenmuth sophomore crushed two homers Saturday, leading the fifth-ranked Eagles to a 10-0 five-inning win over a sixth-ranked Clio team that beat Frankenmuth, 2-1, exactly one week earlier. “I wasn’t surprised we won, but I think everybody was expecting a 2-1 or 3-2 game,” Frankenmuth coach Brad Walraven said. But with Brooklyn Compau at first to lead off the second inning, Schafsnitz cleared the 200-foot fence in centerfield to give Frankenmuth a 2-0 lead. Frankenmuth’s Dog Bowl, an Olympic-style festival for canines, returns

The Frankenmuth Dog Bowl, located adjacent to the River Place Shops, hosted several competitions for dogs and their owners to participate and even qualify for the DockDogs National Championship in October out west. Powers Catholic has strong 2022 football schedule despite leaving Saginaw Valley League

The Chargers will play as an independent in football and teams on the 2022 schedule include 2021 playoff teams Detroit Country Day, Saginaw Heritage, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep and Frankenmuth. Two Saginaw Valley League opponents, Saginaw United and Saginaw Heritage, will remain on Powers’ schedule again this season. Powers athletic director Watson said it wasn’t difficult finding teams to play in the first two weeks and final three weeks of the season. The challenge was lining up opponents in weeks 4-7 since that’s when teams usually play league games.

The Frankenmuth softball team finished off a perfect tournament Saturday, knocking off No. Brooklyn Compau got the win against USA, striking out 11 in seven innings, giving up three hits and one walk. The Eagles scored runs in the sixth and seventh to beat Lakeshore, coached by former Frankenmuth star Libby Poellet Cody. In a 5-0 win over Whitehall, Nate Booms threw seven shutout innings, striking out seven and allowing four hits. In a 12-0 win over Ludington, Logan Kipfmiller earned the five-inning win, allowing two hits and striking out five.

Saginaw spring sports highlights: Freeland stuns Frankenmuth in baseball sweep

Freeland handed sixth-ranked Frankenmuth a pair of baseball defeats Thursday, thanks to some relief work from the Duley brothers. In the first game, Frankenmuth held a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning before Jacob Kundinger hit a three-run triple to take the lead. Drew Titsworth started for Frankenmuth and struck out 10 in 4 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on four hits. In the second game, Parker Grzegorczyk led the offense with three hits, while Campau added a double and homer. In the second game, Owen Wendt gave up one run on five hits over four innings, striking out five.

Frankenmuth’s Joe Jacobs named Associated Press Division 2 Coach of the Year

Frankenmuth girls basketball coach Joe Jacobs was named the Associated Press Division 2 Coach of the Year as part of the all-state teams announced Wednesday. Detroit Edison star and Miss Basketball winner Ruby Whitehorn was named the AP Division 2 Player of the Year. Jacobs, a Frankenmuth High School graduate, was 66-83 in seven seasons as a varsity boys basketball coach at Saginaw Nouvel, Clio and Flushing. In two seasons as the Frankenmuth girls basketball coach, the Eagles are 40-5. Flood warnings in place for Arenac, Saginaw county rivers

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood warning for both the Cass River in Saginaw County and the Rifle River in Arenac County. The NWS is forecasting that the Cass River will remain under a flood warning until the afternoon on Saturday, March 26. Flood stage for the river 17 feet, which is when the river begins to overflow its banks in places, flooding adjacent low lands. According to the NWS, the Rile River’s flood warning will be in effect until late Saturday morning. The Rifle River’s flood stage is 6 feet and at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, the river was reported to be at a maximum 24-hour stage of 7.8 feet.
