Re(turn) To The River festival happening Saturday in Grand Rapids
GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A new festival, featuring music, performances, art, food, games and more is coming to downtown Grand Rapids this weekend. Re(turn) to the River is taking place on a roughly half-mile stretch of the Monroe North Neighborhood, from 555 Monroe Ave. NW to Canal Park, from noon to 10 p.m. There will also be “cultural music explorations from Motherland House Concerts, the Mexican Heritage Association and the Grand Rapids Asian Pacific Festival,” according to a news release. The festival was created by Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., a nonprofit that coordinates development in downtown Grand Rapids and hosts events to activate public spaces the area. “This is a one-of-kind event that spotlights the entire Monroe North riverfront,” Megan Catcho, events manager at DGRI, said in a press release.mlive.com

He and his wife, Amber, experienced every parent's worst nightmare when they lost their three-year-old son, River, in a drowning accident in 2019. The couple met in 2009 on Smith's first music video as a country artist, Amber played Smith's love interest. Man who tried to drown cat charged in Grand Traverse County
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI – A Michigan man has been charged after he was allegedly caught trying to drown a cat. UpNorthLive.com reports that Bradford Krull, 63, pleaded guilty of attempted killing/torture of an animal after someone saw him submerging the cat underwater after catching it in a live trap in October. The cat, who has since been named River, suffered hypothermia and is currently being taken care of at Cherryland Humane Society in Traverse City, the TV station reported. “This kind of action is obviously extremely inhumane and that’s just not the way something should be dealt with,” Grand Traverse County Animal Control Officer Jaime Croel told the TV station. River is expected to recover and will eventually be put up for adoption, Croel said.mlive.com

11-year-old boy dies after being shot by stepdad in Clay Township hunting accident, officials say
CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An 11-year-old boy has died from his injuries after he was shot by his stepfather in an apparent hunting accident in Clay Township, officials said. “Like most of these, it could have been preventable,” Clay Township police Chief Michael Koach said. Sunset was at 7:40 p.m. and they were out looking for the deer they shot, according to authorities. Koach said the stepfather fired a shot that struck the 11-year-old boy. DNR officials are also investigating whether the family followed all the safety laws and rules, including that hunters must wear blaze orange.

About 30 feet of dock was damaged, Detroit police said. The U.S. Coast Guard did catch up to the boat, named “Valara VI,” a little further up the Detroit River.
