Rochester man finally gets first COVID vaccine shots for older relatives after months of frustration

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Trying to get a COVID vaccine has been a frustrating process for many seniors and their families. Brian Gallagher from Rochester, was eligible to get the vaccine, but called Help Me Hank because he couldn’t get his elderly loved ones a vaccine appointment. On Wednesday, after months of trying, his mother-in-law and aunt were able to get their first dose of the vaccine.
Family safe after Rochester Hills home catches fire

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – A garage connected to a Rochester Hills home caught fire on Saturday afternoon. The Rochester Hills Fire Department says a 9-1-1 call about a home fire with a possible explosion was received at about 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6. Firefighters from Rochester Hills and nearby cities were together able to successfully extinguish the flames.
Rochester Hills home catches fire for the second time in less than a month

When firefighters arrived the home was fully engulfed in flames with heavy fire showing through the roof. Most of the bungalow style roof collapsed during the fire. According to the Rochester Hills Fire Department, the same home caught fire less than a month ago on Christmas Eve.
Crews extinguish fire at Ascension Rochester Hospital, no injuries reported
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Fire crews were dispatched Thursday morning to Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital on reports of a fire. According to authorities, the call came in at about 8:45 a.m. and when fire crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the second floor of the building. Authorities said the hospital’s sprinkler system held the fire back until fire crews were able to extinguish the fire. Rochester Hills Fire Department had help from fire crews from Waterford, Bloomfield Township, Troy, Oakland Township and Auburn Hills. The fire investigation will be handled by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
1 injured in car fire on North Adams Road in Rochester Hills
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Fire crews were sent to a crash and vehicle fire on Monday at 5 p.m. on North Adams Road, north of Walton Boulevard in Rochester Hills. The passenger was found on the grass about 30 feet from the vehicle that was on fire, officials said. North Adams Road was closed for more than 2 hours for investigation and cleanup of the scene. Apartment building fire possibly caused by lightning in Rochester Hills, officials say
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. An apartment building caught fire in Rochester Hills early Sunday morning, possibly after being struck by lightning. (Rochester Hills Fire Department)Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in about two hours. Officials say one Rochester Hills firefighter was taken to the hospital for exhaustion but is in good condition. The apartment building sustained significant damage in the blaze. Officials say it is possible that lightning had caused the fire.
Rochester Hills firefighters urge extreme caution during river use after water rescue
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. Two individuals were reported as trapped in the Clinton River in Rochester Hills on Tuesday afternoon. The Rochester Hills Fire Department arrived to the area of Avon and South Livernois to rescue the individuals around 5 p.m. Upon arrival firefighters found the individuals out of the water, but their kayaks were wedged in tree debris in the river, officials said. The Rochester Hills Fire Department is urging extreme caution to residents visiting the river due to high water and fast moving currents caused by recent heavy rains. Officials say downtown Midland could be under 9 feet of water due to the condition of the Edenville dam.
Firefighter burned while putting out Rochester Hills garage fire
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. A firefighter was injured Sunday morning while working to put out a garage fire in the 3400 block of John R Road in Rochester Hills. Crews from the Rochester Hills Fire Department were dispatched to the area after a call came into 911 from the house at around 6 a.m. Sunday. Byers Towing assisted the fire department in moving the vehicle out of the garage so firefighters could extinguish the fire. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire in about 25 minutes, according to the Rochester Hills Fire Department. One firefighter was burned at the scene and taken to a hospital.
Longtime Rochester Hills Fire Department battalion chief retires after 38 years
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – After decades of service, Rochester Hills Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Quaine is hanging up his helmet. Quaine began his career with the fire department in 1981 as a paid on-call firefighter, eventually making his way to battalion chief. “Chief Quaine has been a dedicated and hardworking member for many years. We congratulate him on his well-deserved retirement.”The fire department said goodbye to Quaine Tuesday at a swearing-in ceremony during which two firefighters were promoted, with Lt. Jason Murray filling Quaine’s position as battalion chief. Firefighter Rich Welch was sworn in as lieutenant during the celebration at Rochester Hills City Hall also.

The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant will pay the entire salary for each of the new firefighters for the first year, and over the next four years there are percentages that the grant pays for, according to the Rochester Hills Fire Department.
