Wayne County ordinance makes street racing a public nuisance
DETROIT โ Street racing has been declared a public nuisance in southeastern Michiganโs Wayne County following a vote by county commissioners. The new ordinance allows police to impound vehicles and equipment used in street racing. County Executive Warren Evans said the new measure provides law enforcement with tools to help keep neighborhood streets safe. โFor their own safety and for the safety of other motorists and pedestrians, would-be racers need to stay off Wayne County streets. โStreet racing does endanger lives, has caused injuries, and fatalities and I have witnessed it first hand,โ Evans said.
Wayne County advises its schools to switch to remote learning through Jan. 15
DETROIT โ The Wayne County Public Health Division has issued an advisory, strongly recommending that all public, non-public and boarding schools in the countyโs jurisdiction should shift to remote learning through Jan. 15, 2021. โWe have reached a point in the pandemic that we hoped the County would never see,โ said Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. โWayne County includes many tightly knit communities and we cherish our time together with our families. The recommendation addresses โan age group that can spread COVID-19 without showing signs or symptoms,โ officials said. โWe are working extremely closely with our school districts to prevent further spread,โ said Dr. Mouhanad Hammami, Wayne County chief health strategist.
Wayne County brings free drive through COVID-19 testing to Dearborn Heights this weekend
DETROIT โ Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans, in partnership with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Michigan National Guard and the City of Dearborn Heights are offering free drive-through testing for non-symptomatic individuals at Hype Athletics Center. โWayne County will continue to slow the spread of COVID-19 and make out communities safer,โ said Evans. Tests will be administered by Michigan National Guard personnel, while volunteers from Wayne County Executiveโs office and the City of Dearborn Heights will conduct traffic management and registration for participants. โWe are standing with our communities to protect our Wayne County residents,โ said Evans. Wayne County issues emergency order to preserve coronavirus precautions
The Wayne County Health Department issued an emergency public health order on Oct. 8 requiring residents to continue taking steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Wayne County officials say requirements listed in Thursdayโs order essentially carry on health and safety precautions previously ordered by Michigan Gov. The Wayne County Health Department is reinforcing these measures by deeming them active and enforceable in the county through their own emergency order. Officials say schools under the jurisdiction of the Wayne County Health Department are also required to continue following the stateโs Return to School plan. Wayne County officials say the emergency order is effective immediately and is expected to remain in effect until at least Oct. 23.

More than $4.8 million provided to aid Wayne County residents impacted by economic downturn

Program would help thousands of Detroit, Wayne County residents avoid foreclosure
DETROIT - Officials from Detroit and Wayne County unveiled a proposed program that would help thousands of residents avoid foreclosure. Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans, Mayor Mike Duggan and Wayne County Treasurer Eric Sabree called on the state legislature to implement a sweeping new approach to assist tens of thousands of Detroiters and Wayne County residents who owe back property taxes avoid foreclosure. "Pay as You Stay" would help more than 31,000 Detroit homeowners stay in their homes by eliminating interest, penalties and fees and making payment plans affordable for those who need them." The "Pay as You Stay" plan would be administered by the Wayne County Treasurer's Office, and open for enrollment for three years after the program launches. "This proposal is one of many steps being taken in the right direction to help residents be able to afford to stay in their homes," said Rep. Byrd.
