A juvenile in Canton Township and six other men have been identified as members of โThe Community,โ an international group that hacks into peopleโs cellphones -- often bribing or tricking mobile phone companies -- to steal millions of dollars in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency, officials said.
Police questioning person of interest after womanโs โsuspiciousโ death in Canton Township
CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Police are questioning a person of interest in the โsuspiciousโ death of a 65-year-old woman in Canton Township. Officials said they found the woman dead around 7:45 a.m. Monday (Feb. 22) at her home in the 4100 block of Kimberly Drive. Authorities said they were โactively investigating this suspicious incident.โAt 2 p.m. Monday, police said they have one person of interest in custody for questioning in connection with the womanโs death. โOur officers and detectives have been working diligently to investigate the facts of this morningโs incident,โ Deputy Chief Craig Wilsher said. Canton Township man charged with 18 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct
CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A Canton Township man is facing the possibility of life in prison after he was charged with 18 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Shailesh Patel, 53, of Canton Township, was formally charged Thursday at 35th District Court, officials said. First-degree criminal sexual conduct is a felony punishable by up to life in prison. Police didnโt release details about the alleged crimes, but said an investigate began after one victim filed a report of the abuse. Canton Police Department investigators worked with the FBIโs SEMTEC task force on the case, officials said.
Canton police investigating pedestrian crash that killed man
CANTON, Mich. โ Police are investigating a pedestrian crash that happened Sunday morning around 7:15 a.m. in the area of Michigan Avenue and Schooner Road. It took place after a man was crossing the eastbound lanes of Michigan Avenue at Schooner Road from the south side to the north side. That is when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle which stopped and remained at the scene. The man was taken to St. Josephโs Hospital in Ypsilanti where he died of his injuries. Canton police say speed, alcohol and distracted driving do not appear to be factors in the crash.
Canton police looking for missing 24-year-old man
CANTON, Mich. โ A 24-year-old Canton man went missing on Friday afternoon. Dashawn Adolph was last seen leaving his residence near Ford and Lotz roads around 3 p.m., officials said. Adolph is described as a black man who is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. He drives a 2018 blue Chevy Malibu with the license plate #ECH3256. Police: Canton man charged with torture, assault for attacking wife with power saw, hurting his kids
CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ A Canton Township man has been charged with torture and assault after he attacked his wife with a power saw and injured his two minor children, police said. Oswald John Tallent, 46, is accused of seriously injuring his wife with a power saw, according to authorities. Tallent is charged with assault with intent to commit murder, torture, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation, third-degree child abuse and third habitual offender. The first assault charge and the torture charge each carry a maximum sentence of life in prison, authorities said. The second assault charge is a 10-year felony and the child abuse charge is a two-year felony.
