A defense mental health expert in the penalty trial of Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz can pinpoint when he realized the 23-year-old mass murderer still has โirrational thoughtsโ โ the two were making small talk when Cruz began describing plans for an eventual life outside prison. Wesley Center, a Texas counselor, said that happened last year at the Broward County jail as he fitted Cruz's scalp with probes for a scan to map his brain. The defense at hearings this week will try to convince Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer that Center and other experts should be allowed to testify at Cruz's ongoing trial about what their tests showed, something the prosecution wants barred.

The projected 159.8 million cast ballots represent the highest number of voters in a U.S. presidential election in history. The agency said it learned in August that a girl had been bitten in July after putting her arm into a cage. Pearson, 59, said Saturday that Cullen told her in July that she could start taking in wildlife at Howling Timbers and that she was licensed. Pearson said the animals are not bred at Howling Timbers and that her organization collects them from inside and outside Michigan. The girl was rushed to a hospital where she underwent surgery on her right arm, Pearson added.
Detroit to open satellite voting centers across the city
DETROIT โ The city of Detroit will open 23 satellite voting centers throughout the city and will also add seven secure standalone ballot drop boxes starting Monday, Oct. 5. The centers will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will also be open Election Day, Nov. 3, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.Detroit residents will be able to vote and cast their ballot at all of the satellite centers. As part of his sentence, Center must also forfeit $60,000. Prosecutors said he accepted another $40,000 in bribes directed to the University of Texas tennis program as donations.

The famous tree will be coming from the Village of Florida in Orange County, New York. The tree is the Center's normal Norway Spruce, and was chosen from several submissions. After the tree is cut on November 7, the Center plants a young tree in its place. Then after the holidays, it donates the chosen tree to the Habitat for Humanity to be used for lumber on their home projects.
