Much like the stardom of Lil Sebastian, who was featured on the NBC comedy โParks and Recreation,โ Michiganโs own mini horse is getting her time in the limelight. Blondi, a mini horse from Clay Township, has been selected as a top 10 finalist in the 2021 Cadbury Bunny Tryouts. The winner will be the next star of the iconic Clucking Bunny Commercial. This yearโs contest winner will be announced on March 23rd and will be awarded $5,000 and star in the 2021 Cadbury Clucking Bunny commercial, set to air on TV nationwide.
Police: No suspicious death investigation at Clay Township mobile home park
CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Contrary to previous reports, police in Saint Clair County were not investigating a suspicious death Sunday. Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit originally were told Sunday that a body was found in Channelview Mobile Home Park off Seaway Drive in Clay Township, just north of the Saint Clair River. Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit reported police were calling the death suspicious. However, on Monday police said this is not a suspicious death investigation and that they never did call it such. They said officers were at the park on Sunday to investigate a death, but nothing about it was suspicious.
11-year-old boy dies after being shot by stepdad in Clay Township hunting accident, officials say
CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ An 11-year-old boy has died from his injuries after he was shot by his stepfather in an apparent hunting accident in Clay Township, officials said. โLike most of these, it could have been preventable,โ Clay Township police Chief Michael Koach said. Sunset was at 7:40 p.m. and they were out looking for the deer they shot, according to authorities. Koach said the stepfather fired a shot that struck the 11-year-old boy. DNR officials are also investigating whether the family followed all the safety laws and rules, including that hunters must wear blaze orange.
2 shot at youth deer hunting event in St. Clair County
CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Two people were rushed to the hospital Sunday after being shot during a youth deer hunting event in in Clay Township. Police said it happened as they were out searching for a deer off Benoit Road in St. Clair County. According to authorities, the first person was shot in the woods on private property and another person was shot trying to unload the gun. Police did not reveal the ages of the victims or their conditions. The chief of police said the event is for young people to hunt, but they must be accompanied by an adult.
Man, 6-year-old child injured in paraglider crash in Casco Township
CASCO TOWNSHIP, Mich. A man and a 6-year-old child have been injured in a paraglider crash that occurred Tuesday evening. The St. Clair County Sheriffs Office says at about 7:30 p.m. the 69-year-old man, of Clay Township, took off from a residence in a paraglider with a 6-year-old passenger in the 5600 block of Palms Road. Officials say the paraglider did not gain altitude quickly enough and struck high tension power lines, which caused the paraglider to fall to the ground. Both passengers were transported to the hospital. Their injuries and conditions have not yet been released.
Harsens Island residents voice concerns over flooding, increased ferry prices
CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ Residents packed the Clay Township City Hall on Wednesday to voice concerns about Harsens Island flooding and ferry costs. Residents are also concerned about increased ferry prices. Neighbors were at the city hall for more than three hours. Itโs the same people that own the Ambassador Bridge, and theyโre looking into a possibility of a bridge span over to Harsens island," said Clay Township Supervisor Artie Bryson. When asked if that was a good idea, Bryson said, โThe Clay Township stance is we just want any, a good, reliable and sustainable mode of transportation, to the island.โ
Crews aim to fix Harsens Island Ferry dock for Friday commutes
CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ The Harsens Island Ferry was back in action Thursday, making continual runs back and forth to the island. Unfortunately, itโs only open to pedestrians, leaving vehicles stranded on the island for another night. The dock collapsed and a crane took out power lines on the island Wednesday, leaving many residents stranded. Theyโve had all year to fix these docks and he hasnโt.โFannon was talking about the Harsens Island Ferry Service that worked to fix the damaged dock -- large vehicles havenโt been allowed to cross onto the island for about two months. Officials said they believe the dock will be fixed and ready for motor vehicles by Friday morning.

When the dock for the ferry collapsed it left a lot of people on the island stranded. Despite the problems, the ferry managed to get people across to their homes -- but their vehicles were left behind. After the power line was handled, those waiting were told there would be limited service.

UPDATE: Harsens Island ferry service disrupted after dock collapses, crane takes out power linesThere was also an arcing power line blocking access to get to the ferry on foot. DTE crews were on site working to fix the downed power line issue. The power line was brought down when a crane struck it. Pedestrian traffic can now travel to and from the island, behicles were still stuck as they wait for the ferry service to be restored.
