Cardinal Mooney led 26-21 going into the fourth quarter, but Seminary’s Evan Wakefield opened the final quarter with a 4-yard TD run for a 29-26 lead. Wakefield also ran for a 70-yard TD and a 34-yard TD in the first half, leading MLS to a 21-20 halftime lead. Koehler also added a 9-yard TD run in the first half. Quarterback Brian Everhart added a 1-yard TD run and an 11-yard TD pass to Ryan Trombley. He added a 7-yard TD run in the third, with John Carlson tacking on an 8-yard TD run for the Panthers.

Defending state champion Frankenmuth made its depth pay off Friday, claiming the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association boys team track state title at Fowlerville. The team of Logan Lipka, Bryce Smith, Jonah Sholten and Travis Brenner won in 3 minutes, 31.47 seconds. Freeland won the 3,200 relay in 9:52.56 with the team of Whitney Farrell, Karie Keefer, Kiera Hansen and Mara Longenecker. Tara Richardson led the 7-8 Hawks with six goals, with Abby Buchalski adding four goals and Molly Basil two goals. West led 1-0 at halftime before Kennedy Thurlow scored for the 7-7-4 Chemics.

STOCKBRIDGE -- The Western boys track team had a strong relay showing to open the night, and a strong relay showing to close it to win the 42nd Annual Stockbridge Invitational on Friday. Western got a 4x800 win from Palmer, Samuel Miller, Cooper Singleton and Jacob Singleton, also beating Concord after Concord had gotten off to a strong start." Jacob Singleton won the 1600 in 4:37.27 and the 3200 in 9:59.25." Concord took second in all four relays, with Tyler Carpenter, Mekhi Wingfield, Connor Keefer and Boyd second to Fowlerville in the 4x100 and Carpenter, Wingfield, Boyd and Tyreke Brown second to Fowlerville in the 4x200. Ovid-Elsie freshman Tryce Tokar cleared 12′0 to win the pole vault, beating Western’s Lucas Inosencio who cleared 11′0.

JACKSON – Another week of the track season is through and we have updated our girls track leaderboard for the Jackson area. There must have been a pretty fast track at Napoleon on April 14, because of the 17 events, the top spot in six are from that one meet. Plenty of other times and distances are scattered through the leaderboard from that meet as well. If someone comes along with a better time, distance or height, that spot on the leaderboard changes hands. Each athlete’s best time so far this season counts and we figure out whose best is the best so far.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- A 21-year-old woman who died after her vehicle collided head-on with a U.S. 131 wrong-way driver has been identified as Willow Rose Yon of Fowlerville. Yon was driving a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta north on U.S. 131 about 3:15 a.m. March 27 when her vehicle was struck by a 2014 Chyrsler 200 going the wrong way. State police said that, after the initial crash, both vehicles were then side-swiped by a tanker truck headed north on the freeway, just a short distance behind the Jetta in the right lane. According to a GoFundMe page created for her family, Yon was a third-year student at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids.

For many Michiganders, it’s too early to trust a coronavirus vaccine
Don’t expect Bruce Moreland, of Fowlerville, to be first in line when a vaccine for COVID-19 becomes available. The MLive Video Team interviewed more than a dozen people last week in East Lansing and Brighton about their attitudes toward a potential vaccine. Asked if they would get an FDA-approved vaccine against COVID-19, 44.1% of respondents said they would, 39.1% said they would not and 16.5% were undecided. Dr. S. “Bobby” Mukkamala, president of the Michigan State Medical Society, said he too has noted some public skepticism around a vaccine. LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. – Two locations in Brighton and Fowlerville have been identified as potential coronavirus (COVID-19) exposure sites by the Livingston County Health Department. Two unrelated customers who tested positive for COVID-19 visited the Brighton restaurant on Sept. 18, according to the health department. One infected individual attended a rib dinner on Sept. 18, and the other attended a breakfast on Sept. 20 while symptomatic. COVID-19 symptoms can develop up to 14 days after exposure to the virus. Some viruses are highly contagious (spread easily), like measles, while other viruses do not spread as easily.
Whiteford FFA students win awards in competition
Members of the Future Farmers of America Chapter at Whiteford High School brought home numerous awards after competing at the State FFA Broiler Contest held Nov. 6 at Munsells Poultry Processing in Fowlerville. Whiteford was one of 162 high school teams competing; Whiteford Middle School was one of 15 teams. Following are the Whiteford High School and middle school contest results:Whiteford High School1. Allison Spradling, Emily Raymond, Alaina Andrews, Katie Butz, Jessica Ulery, Alyssa Ulery, McKenzie Ulery, Madelyn Thomas and Ava Siler.
