Ann Arbor’s historic Michigan Theater, State Theatre to reopen Oct. 9, 11
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – After being closed for almost seven months, downtown Ann Arbor’s State Theatre and Michigan Theater will finally reopen. The State Theatre will open with a screening of Aaron Sorkin’s "Trial of the Chicago 7″ on Oct. 9. The Michigan Theater will open on Oct. 11 with screenings of "The Personal History of David Copperfield " and “The Forty-Year-Old Version.”The reopening comes after Gov. Oxford 7 theater to reopen next month after permanent closure
OXFORD, Mich. – As movie theaters prepare to reopen on Oct. 9 following closures due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Oxford 7 theater is reopening its doors after it shut down permanently in March. With the pandemic and previous owners filing for bankruptcy, it was uncertain if the theater would come back. “Everybody thought it was going to be closed forever,” said Oxford 7 general manager Jay Z. Emagine Royal Oak postpones Juneteenth Film Festival after AG threatens criminal charges
ROYAL OAK, Mich. Emagine Royal Oak has postponed its Juneteenth Film Festival after they said Emagines chairman, Paul Glantz, was given a letter from the Attorney Generals Office threatening to bring criminal charges against him if the film festival proceeded as planned. The film festival was to benefit the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and has been indefinitely postponed. The second festival stie is in Minneapolis, MN and is expected to still hold a festival. To our friends at UNCF, we continue to believe in the benefits this Film Festival can bring to the community. The Royal Oak show will go on at a later date.

ROYAL OAK, Mich. Emagine Royal Oak will be opening this Friday for a film festival showcasing Black actors, directors and writers. Tickets are $10 and after royalties $6.50 of each ticket will go to the United Negro College Fund. Emagine Chairman Paul Glanz anticipates the film festival will go for a week. Capri Drive-In movie theater opens at half-capacity amid coronavirus pandemic
COLDWATER, Mich. Burt Reynolds and Jackie Gleason were on the big screen as a drive-in movie theater in southern Michigan reopened, despite business shutdowns during the coronavirus. Capri Drive-In co-owner Susan Magocs said she needs to make money and still can keep visitors safe. The theaters two screens opened Friday night near Coldwater in Branch County. Capri Drive-In offered Smokey and the Bandit, Jurassic Park, Trolls World Tour and Sonic The Hedgehog.Magocs cut capacity by 50%. Stephanie Freiny says theres nothing wrong with having fun if it can be done safely.
