Arbor Hospice to host free virtual music therapy sessions for people of all ages
ANN ARBOR โ Arbor Hospice and Hospice of Michigan have partnered to host virtual music therapy sessions for adults and children coping with grief after losing a loved one. Both sessions are free and will feature trained music therapists from Hospice of Michigan and Arbor Hospice. Donors endow Michigan Medicineโs hospital dog program
ANN ARBOR โ A gift from donors Lainie and Kenny Lipschutz and the Lipschutz Family Fund has made Michigan Medicineโs Paws4Patients a permanent program in the health system. To honor the familyโs generosity, the program has been renamed the Lipschutz-Danzansky Family Paws4Patients Program. Established in 2016 with the support of several donor families, the program -- and its four-legged caregivers -- provides support and comfort to Michigan Medicine patients and their families. Hospice of Michigan, Arbor Hospice offer support group for young adults during pandemic
ANN ARBOR โ Grief of losing a loved one can be exacerbated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainties in the months that lie ahead, especially when paired with pre-existing anxiety and depression. Hospice of Michigan and Arbor Hospice have joined forces to help young adults in their 20s and 30s cope with grief through its online support group Living On For Young Adults. Run by trained, experienced grief counselors the program aims to address grief in a time when life during a pandemic can make it difficult to cope. This local charity is helping special needs children and adults through horseback riding
Beth and Fred Pellerito first met Mitch Albom on The Heart of Detroit in 2018, when they took over running O.A.T.S., a equine therapy organization for children and adults with special needs. Now Albom has checked back in with them to see how things are going since the pandemic began. They said that it has been a challenge just trying to start things up since they were initially able to reopen in June. The Pelleritos shared some of the inspirational stories of students who have seen drastic improvements from meeting with the horses every week. They said that even with the pandemic, its important that they are able to keep helping people as safely as they can.

University of Michigan Depression Center to host virtual conference on workplace mental health
To help industry leaders and employers navigate employee mental health in the workplace, the University of Michigan Depression Center will host a virtual conference on Aug. 19. Researchers, clinicians and industry experts will discuss the impact of COVID-19 on employee mental health and provide real-world strategies for supporting employees. So we need to act more now because the magnitude of the mental health crisis is much higher right now, said Parikh. Therapists like Dr. Reg Williams of the University of Michigan say the virtual alternative has been a useful resource amid the pandemic, and may even remain a popular choice once the threat of the virus is gone.
