A museum in Saginaw has a hip-hop exhibition that they’ve made virtually for everyone to enjoy. The virtual exhibit will highlight over 150 cultural objects that tell the story of hip-hop’s influence on culture, film, music, and more. The Marshall M. Fredrick Museum believes that museum professionals need to take the lead in the community to expose people to all cultures. The museum is the first of its kind to feature historical memorabilia from the world of hip-hop. The museum also has a virtual film speaker series.
20th anniversary edition of J Dilla’s ‘Welcome 2 Detroit’ hits streaming platforms
A special 20th anniversary edition of J Dilla’s “Welcome 2 Detroit” was released to streaming services on Friday. First issued by BBE Music in February of 2001, “Welcome 2 Detroit” was James Dewitt Yancey aka Jay Dee’s first solo outing and the debut appearance of his new ‘J Dilla’ moniker. J Dilla is one of Detroit’s most iconic music names and is regarded as one of the best hip hop minds of his generation. The original project featured 16 tracks, while the anniversary edition includes 46, including demos and instrumentals. The 20th anniversary version is available on all major music streaming platforms.
Dr. Dre in ICU after suffering brain aneurysm, TMZ reports
LOS ANGELES – Hip hop mogul Dr. Dre is hospitalized at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after suffering a brain aneurysm, according to a TMZ report. The report stated the 55-year-old suffered the aneurysm on Monday and was taken to the hospital in Los Angeles, where he remains as of Tuesday night. He is “stable and lucid,” the report said, although doctors are not sure what caused the bleeding and are conducting tests. Dr. Dre (born Andre Romelle Young) is in the middle of a separation from his wife, Nicole Young, who filed for divorce last year after more than 20 years of marriage. Dr. Dre has four children from previous relationships.
Legendary rapper MF Doom dies at 49, family says

According to the message posted to MF Doom’s social media pages, the British-born rapper, Daniel Dumile, died in October. Doom’s team confirmed the news to XXL: “With heavy hearts, we share these words from MF DOOM’s family. It is our wish to continue to respect their privacy at this difficult time.”MF Doom, who wore a mask and took on a “super villain” persona, was one of the most iconic rappers in hip hop history.

DETROIT Big Sean has officially released his fifth studio album Detroit 2, which features several Detroit rappers and artists. Detroit 2 was released on Friday, with a slate of Detroit features, including Eminem, Royce da 59, Tee Grizzley, Kash Doll and even Stevie Wonder. Detroit 2 is Big Seans first solo studio album since I Decided in 2017, his second No. 1 album and was certified platinum by RIAA. Big Sean did release a song in 2019 titled Single Again, which featured a Detroit shot music video, including Local 4.

NYT: 2 arrested in 2002 killing of hip-hop legend Jam Master Jay
Two men will be indicted in the killing of hip-hop pioneer D.J. Jam Master Jay, who was killed in Queens, New York in 2002, according to the New York Times. The New York Times reported Monday that federal prosecutors will announce an indictment of two men, Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan, Jr., who have long been suspected in the murder. Jam Master Jay was a member of the ground-breaking hip hop group, Run-DMC. He was gunned down at a recording studio in Queens in 2002.

How these Detroit police officers work to keep kids off streets with hip-hop
They patrol the streets by day, but in their free time theyre inside a local dance studio teaching kids dance, hoping to keep them off the streets. At just 7 years old, little Azariah is learning the ins and outs of hip-hop dance. Detroit teacher says Black representation in schools has ‘revolutionizing effect’
DETROIT – Detroit teacher Quan Neloms is from the heart of Detroit and began working in the education system as a school volunteer in the late 1990s. Once thing he’s noticed since his journey began is the lack of Black men in the school system -- and, for the sake of our youth, that has to change. “The main thing is that we want to impress on Black men (is) that you are needed,” Neloms said. “Being involved in education, in the field of education as black men. The teacher also created an organization called In Demand, whose aim is to help older Black men make a positive impact on future leaders in the Black community.
Detroit rapper Obie Trice pleads guilty to gun charge after shooting incident in December
NOVI, Mich. Detroit rapper Obie Trice plead guilty to a charge of possession of an unregistered gun on Wednesday in connection with a home shooting in December 2019. The plea comes after Trice was charged in February following a shooting incident at his home in Commerce Township on Dec. 6, 2019. An 18-year-old man had been shot in the leg after a domestic altercation and Trice was considered a suspect at the time.
