'Stuff the Bus' with school supplies

FLINT, MI -- If you go shopping at a Walmart in Genesee County this weekend, you’ll have an easy opportunity to donate school supplies through The Salvation Army. From Aug. 6 to Aug. 8, The Salvation Army collection bins will sit at the front of each Walmart store to collect school supplies, shoes, backpacks, face masks and more. County residents can also donate by visiting the “Stuff the Bus” Registry for Good website. The promotion helps to provide school supplies to hundreds of local children throughout Genesee County. “There are many children in our community whose parents will have to make the tough choice between school supplies, groceries, or paying bills,” Major Randy Hellstrom, Genesee/Shiawassee Regional Coordinator for The Salvation Army, said.

Five people received vaccine doses Wednesday, bringing the total to 45 doses given over the past four weeks through the program designed to reach those who have little to no access to churches, community centers or other places where vaccines are being given.

GRAND HAVEN, MI – The Salvation Army of Grand Haven revealed the addition to its Corps Community Center at a public dedication Saturday, May 8. It includes a new gymnasium, kitchen, bathrooms, office space and classrooms. Salvation Army has served the Grand Haven community for 99 years, currently providing utility, rental and food assistance, emergency and transitional housing, summer programs for youth and back-to-school and Christmas assistance.
